Imagine, you catch the end of sunrise before you leave for work
Its on in the background in the office, you go for lunch and come back to see it different again.
You get home and watch your evenings' tv, and then switch for the night's news and paper review, then bed...
.

I would think I was watching a different channel, and then go turn it off, because it a different product to watch i initially tuned in for in the first time.

Well you probably over estimate the level of differentiation I had in mind. They did this level of change previously between 1998 - 2001

My Idea of the level of change is more like the bbc...

Do the different colours scare you away, when the bar is orange instead of red?

My point is, that there is no reason that making different parts of the day different colours for graphics on a newschannel.

Lets leave it as that yeah, I won't bother posting in future.

And lets just say, judging by your mocks of stuff, im glad you are not desigining them for real world.

Oh hang on, maybe a rainbow news channel is for you? Or some flashing neon lights that changes colour?

I sometimes wonder if Sky News can still 'do' the fun element. I believe they probably could at the drop of a hat. But the format needs to allow it. And it needs the right presenters teamed up again.

I agree, they certainly have the presenters to do it - the likes of Chris Roberts, Steve Dixon and Anna Botting all suddenly spring to life when there's someone there to talk to like the newspaper reviewers or the sports presenter.

I agree that they still do breaking news very well, and it's always my first choice when there's a major developing story, but it's on those slower news days where Sky News has lost itself a little.

I agree completely with the double headed format. Jeremy and Anna, Bob Friend and Anna, Bob and Vivian, it's too obvious, they just have to look back at themselves.

I like the Live Desk format that Fox News use, but Sky have slightly messed it up.

The only other things I would keep are skynews.com and Jeff Randall Live.

I am constantly annoyed by the presenters Sky News let get away. Simon McCoy on News 24 still does banter, and extremely well. Emma Crosby - why on earth did they drive her to GMTV? Faye Barker, once she fell to Sky News. Allan King, he was Sky's all purpose player. Juliette Foster was good. Even Paula Middlehurst isn't on that often.

Sky. Rewind the tape to your own past, in the old studio. That's what we want. That.

However, not much was actually happening, so it felt like the channel was having fun. It was still reporting the news, as Sky would report the news with their 15 minute format. However, after that, the presenters were having fun, taking the mick out of their own technology when things kept going wrong, but for a news channel, was quite engaging.

I saw Cavuto on Saturday, and he is an excellent presenter, who seems to have fun. He regularly reads out email slagging him off. Sheperd Smith is another one who can have a laugh, and can be very serious when needed.

Sky used to be like that. When I hear "in 15 minutes every 15 minutes", I turn over. Between 8 and 10, Fox sometimes wins. (Granted, some Fox News is terrible).

I think some people are hitting the nail on the head here - as I've said already, the channel is just boring now. I think they maybe took the 'fun' thing too far when they moved studios, certainly Sky News Today with Mark, Steve and Ginny was awful in that they were like giggling schoolchildren sometimes, but on the other hand, Martin and the two Annas were excellent - intelligent, witty conversation when it was appropriate. This is what is missing now. Instead, the most we have is Kay flirting with the sports presenter.

Martin, I see what you mean about variances with the Sky News the do not look as bad as I thought you were meaning. I have to say I still think sticking with red, navy and white would be my preferred option - but each to their own.

Funny seeing Mark Longhurst on at the moment.

Yea Shep is great on Fox most of the time. I'd rather watch him than 'NSW' as we seem to be calling it. If Sky want 'fast paced', have a look at Studio B. Take a look now if you get a chance, he's on till 9pm live from DC.

Mark Longhurst doing the 15 minute news wrap. I've seen it all now. With Charlie Thomas on sport, it's a bit like the Weekend Sunrise setup, except without any personality whatsoever due to the restrictive NSW format.

On the plus side, Live at Five was good tonight with Chris in London and Jeremy in Washington gaging the atmosphere ahead of the big day tomorrow. Rory Bremner is always good value, especially his Francis Wilson impressions Laughing

Just got to put a word in for Jeremy Thompson.

Switched on Sunrise at seven this morning and JT was anchoring from Washington.

Going to bed now and he's still on.

Top quality broadcaster. In fact IMO he's the best of them all.

Well done JT!!
