Asish would benefit from a strong lead like Kay Burley and I also think Samantha Simmonds and Sasha Twinning are rising stars and could co-present with Jeremy or Dermot?

I wouldnt really call Samantha a rising star, more a fairly experienced presenter demoted to headline reading. Pre the 2007 schedule changes she would regularly act as a relief presenter on Sky's main programmes such as Sky News Today and co-presented Sunrise on Sundays. Im sure I even saw her do Live at Five at weekends occasionally. She certainly has the experience

I meant compared to Anna Botting, Jeremy Thompson and co. She is an experienced journalist but is not a stable part of the Sky News presenters rota - although in saying that she is just back from mat leave.

She covered for Steve Dixon on Friday and has covered various other evening slots since returning from maternity leave so she's hardly hard done by or anything. There just isn't a decent slot available for her at the moment unless they either start doubling up presenters or she takes over Anna J's former NSW slot on weekday evenings.

Here is a question...

With the HD Simulcast of the Obama Inauguration for Sky News on Sky Arts HD, (and for BBC News on BBC HD) will the broadcasters be using specially designed graphic sets, or will it be our first chance to see how the normal graphics sets fair in High Definition?

I wonder whether the HD coverage will in fact be graphics free and taken straight from another US channel, like the Concert last night on Sky Arts HD taken straight from HBO.

I thought they just had access to the Eurovision pool of cameras, rather than taking a Programme per se...

Complete guess here, but I think the BBC will probably come up with some special graphics for the broadcast, while Sky will use a HD version of it's Decision Time USA graphics.

There is a HD feed being distributed by Eurovision, I guess we'll see tomorrow whether or not the BBC and Sky's presenter shots will also be HD.

New QATAR Airways stings today, but using the old music. Rather confusing.

Confusing?

They've been using some new blue and red graphics today for their reports on Obama in place of the normal red bit, I imagine what is used tomorrow will be based on these.

I think that quite a few people are being a little unfair on here at the moment.

Of course banter is required, I thought it too obvious to mention. Bob Friend and Anna Botting were masters at this, but with single heading, lack of any viewer debates like the good old Your Call format from 1998 - 2001 where viewers would phone and text in questions for an MP, Minister or other public figure who was in for the day.

Double heading, with handovers to the Web Desk, Sports Desk, Business, and Weather, are essential, and the banter should be appropriate for the time of day. Sunrise, alot - Sky News at Ten - little.

And the different Strands should have a unique look, or presentational feature. For Example

__________________________________________

Sunrise
Orange tints for graphics, Soft Area with handovers to News Update presenter, Travel, Sports, and Weather.

Sky News Daytime
Normal Graphics + Business DOG, From the newsroom (no desks) regular Business, Sport and Weather updates, Modern fast(ish) pace for graphics, a bit of whizz

Sky News Lunchtime
Normal Graphics, Mix of Main Desk backing onto newswall and Soft Area. Have a guest on each day, interviewed in the Soft Area, with video, phone, and e-mail questions coming in from the public for about 15-25mins after the interview. Business, Sport, and Showbiz/Culture updates throughout the day lunchtime@skynews.com

Sky News Early Evening
Normal Graphics Blue tinges perhaps... Main Desk backed onto the newsroom, Slower Pace than daytime, double headed, more traditional presenting with a feature report from the newswall and some nice banter between presenters and guest brought in to discuss ongoing stories. Handover to 5-10min segments with the Web Desk.

Web Segments in 2 hours: Top Clicked, Web Interview, Google Searches Segment, Tech Preview

Sky News Business Programme
Presented from the Main Desk with guests in, and special newswall graphics in use, and emails read out to the guest collected throughout the day - business@skynews.com

Sky News at 9, 10, Midnight
Normal Graphics, darker shades, Single headed - Small Desk with gallery or newsroom view, then from 11 - 12 Main Desk and newswall. Serious presentation with banter only on Handovers with Sport, Web Desk and Weather.

Sky Overnight - International Service
Normal Graphics (with necessary international tweaks) Single Headed, with handovers to Sports, Weather, and Web Desk recorded segments Will be from the main desk backed onto the newswall and segments coming from in the newsroom areas.

What's the point? Sky News needs simplifying not more seperations in its programming. People just want the News when they tune in, not different coloured graphics and segments.

I don't see how having different graphics for each programme would benefit - only making things worse.

Sky News it too slow paced aswell, it needs to be faster.

The problem with Sky News is that it has become bland in its presentation style. What they need is to put purpose to the different times of day, take advantage of the different ways they can present, what can sometimes be the same stories throughout the day.
