I hope they will change this boring newsroom background. They should go back to using story graphics and backgrounds on the newswall.

I remember how much I wanted them to change the blue globe they had since 2005. Now I wouldn't mind if they brought it back, it was very good and had a lot of details.

Aye Aye Ginny, I think that is the way to go.

I also liked the White on Navy Text block with Lunchtime Live and Sunrise next to the current Sky News logo. I also found the view of earth from a satelitte very apt for Sky News.

At least the US stations make use of the monitor in front of the studio desk. I can remember this being used now and again on Live at Five and The Sky Report.

Why can the pods at the end of the newswall runway not be used more? I know that Sportsline started to use them now and then but it was a waste of a presentation spot IMO.

It will be interesting if sport, weather and different news programmes will vary presenting positions as in the Sky News from October 2005 and the old look CNN Headline News? There is no use investing in various presenting positions and only using two or three!

I also do not know why the stairs are only used for Lunchtime Live and not Sky News Today; I can see why they perhaps are not used for Sky News at Ten when the majority of camera crew will be tucked up in bed!

I'd expect the presentation to stay mostly the same. The changes that are happening are to adapt to the current format of the channel, as to reverting to anything like 2005's structure. So don't get too excited on here, learn from the disappointment on here from the hyperbole surrounding the GMTV relaunch!

Dermot said he's a traditionalist and likes presenting from the news desk.

Well the question is why did he join Sky News, a channel which was known for its innovative presentation style.

Money probably...

You could have the desk backed on the newsroom for Sky News Today, and then switch to the sports area, the newswall, the business area etc, so featuring many desks in the newsroom.

Live Desk would need to be given a unique treatment also, perhaps backed onto the newswall, with interactive graphics, etc.

It also smacks of hypocrisy as he was not behind a news desk on BBC Breakfast!

Sofa and Coffee Table, Chair and Desk, are mostly the same thing, I think by his mentioning his preference for sitting behind a desk, he ment he disliked moving around, and using screens etc.

I do not agree with you there either Martin, a coffee table and desk are different things - but I get your main point!

If you cannot be arsed moving around then perhaps presenting from location aint for you either.

Will be interesting to see if he does any live presenting from Gaza etc?

I cannot recall seeing Dermot present from location even on the Beeb!

Dermot presented from outside the hospital Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko died at on the BBC. He was also in the US for Sky's election coverage, and IIRC some of the coverage of the earlier primaries

Fair cop - I cannot honestly remember seeing him on location for the BBC, but yeah the Sky US Election coverage does ring a bell...he may have even ducked gunfire in Iraq or Israel?

However, when you think of Sky presenters on location you think JT, Anna Botting and Kay Burley.

Do we know when the new set will be ready? ....this week?

Dermot spent much of his early career on ITN, perhaps if you looked back you may see him as a roaming reporter. Anywho, enough of murnahernaman...

Come on out DVeous or SKY NEWS INSIDER, let us in on some of the more cosmetic of changes...

Don't know why Sky News were using a 4:3 picture cropped to 14:9 of Obama's speech just then, when it's was going out at the same time on Sky Arts as a very nice quality HD picture.

EDIT: And just as I post that, Sky Arts HD's picture breaks up and they switch to a more stable SD feed. Still 16:9, though.
