This CSO studio Sky are using is very bad compared to Sky's usual standards presentation wise. I would have expected something better than this, especially as its in use for over a month.

The printed backdrops is what make it look fake, not the actual green screen!

How come they didn't use the Millbank studio like they used too? It would have looked better than the CSO. Wink

Well Millbank is in Central London, whilst the Sky News Centre is in West London near Heathrow. It would involve relocating some departments which costs. Also the CSO studio is in the same building, so it is easier to manage.

Another reason is because Millbank is SMALL, and is kept on reserve so MPs and other important figures don't have to travel out of Central London.

So its the printed backdrops you think are bad, not the studio or the CSO implimentation...

They were left overs from years back I believe, and as such I think they do the job well enough...

Yeah, I mean in the wideshot, its the printed backdrop that stands out. The CSO behind the presenter looks much better.

Its also funny by the way, that they have a fake backdrop of a fake backdrop if you know what I mean.

I think that they have done a bloody good job, if I'm honest, especially the fake newswall bit they use for the business news. The only problem with it all is that it shows how badly they used the set before if they can recreate it so simply and make it barely noticeable to the untrained eye!

Will be interesting to see what they've done - I'd have thought it would have been finished for tomorrow, ready for Obama's inauguration this coming week. They're going to have a lot more viewers than normal, perfect time to show off something shiny and new.

Here Here

Lets hope this makes the execs take this refurbishment work as an opportunity to bring some variety to the on-screen presentation (Set and Camera shots) from here on in.

I know the whole 2007 TV Scandals took their tole on News Presentation going "back to basics", but as their viewership declines, and as others try their own "back to basics" ideas, sky should go back to 2001-2002 and be brave and unique once more.

I would hope they would consider changing the predominant blues and reds in the news centre, either to include some colour changeable elements, or go for something more interesting as in, Purples, Oranges, Teals, with the odd red, blue and yellow bits here and there, it would be able to work with new colour schemes for the graphics, and be a less anemic feel for the newsroom shots.

Purple and orange? Sky News should be red and blue! I hate they got this two colour pallettes going at the moment, its either blue/red or black/red/white. Wish they would make their mind up.

If I had my way they should go back to red and navy blue, and not this washy blue colour they're using right now.

I'd imagine though most of the Inauguration coverage will be anchored from Washington.

I agree onsky - sorry Martin - usually agree with you on everything!

Personally, I think that Sky News have just established the current look; since 1998 we have come to identify Sky News with blue, red and white. I also think that the current astons and graphics look good.

However, the titles are not great; I always liked the ones used when they moved to the new centre in 2005, yet changing to purple, oranges and teals would mean that Sky News would loose its identity and confuse people more.

I also think that such a radical move would scream "we do not know what we are any more".

Sky News should be very careful about whatever changes it has in the pipeline. The schedule changes every five seconds, the graphics change every five seconds and Anna Botting's shifts change every five seconds.

Some stability is long overdue on Sky News!!!

I think yellow and blue would be effective. It is a bit ITV, but it's bold, but not garish.

I think Martin is talking about putting some different colours into the newsroom, not overhauling the graphics with oranges and purples. If that's the case, I agree - the current (old) newsroom is dull. While the overall colour scheme should reflect the Sky News branding or white, red and blue, there's no reason why certain parts of the set couldn't be accented by some purples, oranges, and especially yellows (already used on the graphics).

They have a fantasic space, with more than enough facilities to make the place look different for different parts of the day. I'm sure when they moved in, they made a big thing about the studio changing colour throughout the day to reflect the time of day and programming? What happened to that?

Yes I was only referring to the set.

Using secondary colours instead of the primary's Orange for red, Purple for blue etc, along side the others would really give a more human and warmer feel...

Yeah, having light blue and a pale red rather than change the colours would be better than changing things so radically. Why not make the shades of red and blue get darker as the day rolls on?

For example, I do not think having purple and yellow for Sunrise, green and pink for Sky News Today and blue and orange for Live at Five makes much sense. I am sticking to an Ann Maurice approach to this Wink

Again, I think that there is the question of identity at stake here, along with the lack of constants.

Some stability at Sky News is long overdue!!
