Off-topic - but what does 'sticky' mean in the context of this forum?
Means it's at top of the forum regardless of whether any other posts have been made. It's been deliberately stuck there as it were, hence the term sticky.

Oh I see. Obvious really when you spell it out. Thanks.
You honestly have to be kidding! We don't get to watch this network in the states, but honestly, Sky seems to be going through what FNC's been going through since 2006, a complete design meltdown. From a distance, my only pro of this design is that the ticker doesn't appear to take up half your screen any more, something which FNC (who know's why) has done the opposite of. For that matter, the flying in and plastic look of items is horrid, not to mention the online version.
Overall, is there really a reason for the network to relaunch on a near year-to-year basis? From a distance, 2005 looked great and built the brand in my book, and this, well, this just makes me think I'm watching CNNi.

Fox News's design is all over the place, their graphics during election coverage is a total mess of colours, styles and alignments all on screen at the same time.
The new Sky graphics are a vast improvement on what's just gone, which was very Fox News inspired.

Yep, it's very CNNi, but personally I think it's a lot better done. CNNi is far too bright and has some hideous sets . The 2005 Sky News looked great because it was all designed together, the last one took a bit from the 2005 and changed some bits hence it never really worked.
This isn't a 'relaunch' though, it's just a change of graphics. Their programmes, presenters and editorial has evolved since the big relaunch when they moved to the new studio.
I like the new look, I'm glad they got rid of the massive sky news clock in the bottom left that always looked really silly to me.
I think the biggest thing I've noticed tho is that sky news now fills the screen properly again instead of having a pointless little black bar at the bottom. (That showed up even on properly configured 16:9 TV's) eg,
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sky_News_New_Colourscheme.jpg This had always bugged me for some reason as it made no sense for them to do it
Granted the new look is more compact and the ticker size is nice, but what is going on with all of that mis-alignment? I really don't understand it and don't think it looks good at all. Also dislike having the DOG at the top of the screen.

The US network's do tend to do a variety of styles for the different programs, but my only point on FNC would be that they had a good setup in 2005 presentation wise, albeit about as simple as I've seen them, before heading into the crazy territory they are in now. Nothing is consistent, a transparent scroller is a horrible idea, not to mention program quality has gone down hill.
Looking over the Sky graphics again though, this latest revision does look like a great improvement over the previous version, though I question them copying, outright, CNNi's style in L3rd. Also, the intro music has grown on me, not to mention the use of 3D, but the colors just don't seem to exist anywhere else. For that matter, the background in the studio doesn't seem to connect with the style.

True, this isn't a relaunch, but more of a rebranding. Any company that moves away from using a tower logo is smart in my book, the only example in the US in news recently being MSNBC, which probably has the best presentation of all three networks albeit the near lowest ratings. Still, the boxes do make you notice the brand, but it just wastes so much space and brings no real purpose.
As far as I'm concerned, its still a continuation of the October 2005 look. The graphics and sound have been tweaked, played with, and modified, but everything can still be traced back to the look adopted in 2005. Likewise everything in between 2001 and 2005 I would regard as modifications to the 2001 look (which incidently, I would still regard as being by far the worst look Sky News has ever had - the biggest astons UK terrestrial TV has seen before or since, as well as the infamous "blob", although I wasn't a big fan of the short lived 1997-1998 egg look either).

I'd disagree. Although of course there are element there - mainly the font - it's only the studio which IMO is a "continuation" of the 2005 look - and even that now looks different on screen since the video wall was changed into a fake newsroom background - about the only change Sky News have really made for the better in the last year or two.
