I have been trying to get into the new sunrise team, but I am not feeling it. I found myself switching to GMB. I much prefer Stephen Dixon with Gillian Joseph, or Charlotte Hawkins if she were still at Sky. The new team just seem a bit err flat.
I do tune in for the people at breakfast time, I want a bit of news and light entertainment/discussion.

I tried it on Monday and the new duo were too straight, this is what happens when you lose a broadcasting legend for two standard presenters. Never really got SJM when she covered for Eamonn earlier in the year, but will try again next Tuesday. Otherwise, Breakfast has the right mix of news and entertainment without being too rigid.

SJ I feel is able to do a job there, even if not a great job, I haven't really warmed to Jonathan Samuels yet though but maybe it will change.
As for tonights breaking news presentation, what a disaster.

I find myself to be much more interested in watching new Sunrise than the one with Eamonn, it was kind of getting worn out without much changes in years, SJM and Jonathan are so fresh and enthusiastic. Stephen and Isabel duo so far isn't working that smooth, but I think it will get better with time.
In the new line-up again the only one I'm still battling to get used to is Sophy Ridge. It also looks a bit thin in the relief presenters department, for now seemingly it is made of Sarah Hewson, Tom Mcleod, Gamal Fanbulleh, Claudia-Liza Armah and Sam Naz.
I'm very much looking forward new studio and setup, from all previews/photos it looks really great, so hopefully I won't be disappointed when it goes live. The only thing I'm missing is the TOTH voiceover, for me something important got lost when it was gone and I'm still missing it.

Ridge is fine, although I'd rather see her reporting from Westminster which is one of her strengths. Rebecca Williams you can also add to the relief pool, although only on the graveyard 'World News' shift so far.

Gamal is very good, but this Friday shows you how short on the ground they are for presenters with only Kay Burley missing, you had
Tom MacLeod
Sam Naz
Sophy Ridge
None of which are capable for me of dealing with breaking news. They would be more than capable of reading the news but the fact we had prime time output from these three one after another on the same day, really does show Sky News up. Today's breaking news was very minor compared to other breaking news events, but can you imagine if a major event happened?
It's one thing to slip an inexperienced anchor in between two experienced anchors, you know if something happens an experienced anchor can be brought in after a while, but there were just too many people following each other in the schedule who were not cut out for the job on big bulletins after so many of the weekend were let go.
The Fri-Sun team has been decimated by cuts Lorna Dunkley, Martin Stanford Andrew Wilson, Samantha Simmonds,, Mark Longhurt, Jannat Jalil etc, all staples of the weekend coverage and have been allowed to leave. The weekend team as it is, is extremely poor compared to what came before it and as for the cover, well that is even worse.
It's not such an issue in the week where you still have a number of experienced newsreaders who are well apt at breaking news, but at the weekend you have a schedule already for me, which is below average. We've gone from Lorna, Andrew Wilson and Mark Longhurst to Tom, Samir and Sophy and whilst I understand that Sky need to blood new talent, we've gone from one extreme to another.

I've noticed over the past few days Sky have been using a white background instead of the blue one used when doing satellite interviews from Westminster. I wonder if this means that with the move to the new studio Sky are phasing out the blue completely? I hope not, but I'm not holding my breath. Since May 2015 Sky have clearly been favouring a white/red pallet. A shame in my opinion as the red/blue, to me, is a staple of the Sky News brand.

Don't forget, until 1998, Sky News was always blue. Then they added the red - and ITV and BBC both soon added that colour to their palettes. ITV has changed a few times since then, but the BBC has had red ever since (swapping cream for black, and then white). At this point, Sky are making a mistake getting rid of blue, as using white and red just makes them look like the BBC.
