Interesting that today's Observer mentions Charles Allen and Trevor MacDonald celebrating Trev's decision not to go to Sky News, and instead stick with ITV.

There were rumours around here a while ago that Sky were trying to sign him up. God knows what for.

Presumably they are still very much on the prowl for big names.

On the subject of big names, did Eammon Holmes actually appear on Sky News for the George Best thing yesterday? I'd have thought he'd be the obvious candidate to appear on Sky all the time presenting this story, but I've not seen him at all. Presumably he isn't the sort of person who is prepared to drop everything and go to work.

Lazy tw*t.

Well he was speaking at the funeral, so obviously he couldn't present the coverage. However, he did turn up and talk to Kay (who was hosting) as an interviewee, discussing Best's life for a good half hour, hour or so.

Actually, Eamonn was compering the funeral service itself.

EDIT: Just beat me to it, Time Warp!

Good to see Paula Middlehurst this weekend, why is she so seldom on since the relaunch?

Maybe World News tonight. His "Baaahhh" and Pauses would be good, better than James Rubin...

Well what can I say?? the blue bar is disgusting. Oh well, from January 2nd it will be all good because of the Aussie relaunch and there will actually be a real ticker there!

Is there any reason why Sky News Sunrise is coming from the top sports area, by the stairs? No Ident at 8am either.

Has the newswall broken or something.

I know this post will start off a whole load of speculation again...but a source I know of which works for sky news has told me that more major changes are to be implemented into the current sky news look early 2006. One change I have been led to believe is that a TOTH menu for which we havent seen for so long....will be making a reappearance back onto the channel.

This is just what I have been hearing....has anyone heard anything else about this...(or to the contrary?)

Jeremy Thompson must really feel like he's stuck in a hole.

He gets to run 7 minutes on the Cameron win, not before going to Iran for the plane disaster (this would have been an admirable editorial decision), but before talking about Gazza.

Yet another example of news handling policy that's changed since relaunch- the old Sky News would have run with Cameron on Live at Five for a lot longer....presumably the pressures of being simulcast on Sky Three for an hour only.

News 24 have had news and analysis on the Cameron Story for about double the time before going to Iran for the other major story of the day.

It may be flashy, but if you actually want a serious news channel, there is just no choice left- it's News 24 all the way.

I doubt that being simulcast on Sky Three is even taken into considerating by Live at Five.

Jeremy seems to be struggling on his own. Nice choice of Tory Blue tie he was wearing yesterday. Coincidence??

Martin Popplewell has to have the worst pronounciation for the most basic words ever. Everyday your always going to here him pronounce something wrong. Like this morning. Instead of Stories, he said "Scories"

There have been occasions like last week during overnight on Sky World News where he mis-pronouced at least 8 words in 30 secnds. Shocking.

Is it just my ears, or do others notice this?

"Cross Flannel Cherries" was one of the most famous mis-pronunciations ever on ITN News at 5:40 many years ago, when the famous resident anchor used to make errors on a daily basis and became very famous for it.

I am sure someone will chip-in in a moment to explain what he was trying to say, and who he actually was.......

Martin Popplewell - yes, I have noticed that about his diction, and it's as though his teeth are too big or something.

He IS otherwise good though......................
