SKY were FIRST with the news that the shooting was indeed a KILLING.
Martin Brunt broke the news that one of the officers was dead.

But then equally, Jeremy Thompson flying solo on Live at Five looked completely out of his depth....it's just the moment when you need a co-anchor so you can receive direction from the gallery whilst they talk. With one anchor, there were long pauses and general rabbit-caught-in-headlights look.

Really highlighted the weakness of single-headed ATV shows when news breaks- they should have a spare anchor ready to come in make it a double headed rolling news setup.

Sky could lose 10 years of reputation if a Sept 11th sized story breaks with Rubin on the air.

I dont think News 24 had the first LIVE pics, cos before i went out last night, i was watching News 24 as they had the "latest pictures" - coming in, i switched to Sky News and they had LIVE feed.

Although BBC News 24 were quick at the start, going live to that newsroom up there

That's different ... N24 were first with live pictures. But there was only one truck - as I explained - so when it was being used by other broadcasters ofcourse N24 are going to show latest pictures rather than the live shot. But I stand by the fact that N24 and ITV had live pictures way before Sky and indeed had better local coverage from the start than Sky ... who, as they are good at doing, caught up when they threw everything at it. But then Sky will never be able to compete with local ITV and BBC newsrooms.

Indeed - only saw Sky later on in the early evening when they were doing far more on it, certainly had thrown everything at it.

But there's no substitute to the regular checking of voice banks from police forces for this sort of news, or having the contacts on the ground who say something's going on and you can chase it.

Well I remember watching sometime after 5pm (but before 6pm as I watched my local news) but Romilly Weeks was reporting live on the ITVNC about the shootings but I wasn't sure where she was reporting from.

ITVNC did infact take a live feed from ITV Yorkshire before Sky News had any live pictures.

People on this forum will always make out that Sky are always first with things even before checking their facts.

ITV NC and BBC News 24 have the United Kingdom covered extremely well and there is no way that Sky can ever (currently)compete with them.

Glasgow anybody?

Actually, she must be freelance as I'm sure she read the news on GMTV a while back.
