Sky News just reported some breaking news from Sainsbury's - aparently there was a 'LARGE EXPLOSION IN DELI'. This was soon corrected however to be in 'Delhi'!!!
However they did get it on air - however they spelt it - a minute or so before News 24, and spoke to a reporter in the city within minutes of the news. News 24 just had Sissons bumbling!
If you want to see how to have a big set and use great shots and views of it then I say cast your mind back to the BBC's Election 2005 set. Incidentally does anybody know if the BBC's set at Broadcasting House is going to be larger than Sky's? I think that some of the BBC suits would love to up the large studio wars!

That sounds worryingly plausible.
One year from now...
"Live from the Sky News Arena..."
Three years from now...
"Live from the Sky News City..."
LOL. That would change the meaning of 'Sky WORLD News'.
Incidentally, I think people are being so critical, or feel let down by the Sky News relaunch because:
[a] We have been waiting for over a year to see what it looks like; and in that long time we have all built up an idealistic and perfect view of what we would like to see, therefore anything less would naturally be an anti-climax.
[b] Presentaion wise it is very different to what we are used to with a news channel. And lets face it, this country is adverse to change.
If you think about it, the news content isn't really any different to what they were providing months prior to the relaunch.
Give it a few months, let them get over the New feeling and need to show off and they will get the mixture right.
Finally, BBC News 24 really isn't that special either, a few months ago certain people would be complaining about it, now that Sky News has changed itself so as to improve itself in the long term, everyone seems to have reversed their opinons. How typical.
Having watched the "weekend" output today, I find it rather bland, and very much boring and like the old style, and still with the same old faces at weekends (although it IS a pleasure to see Juliette Foster at any time).
Methinks the weekend output needs a little stir up.
If it caries on like this BBC News will be doing their news from Fountain Studios and get an audience in just like The X Factor!! The Sky revamp does make News 24 look claustrophobic but they made a mistake with some of the presenters. OI RUBIN NO!! Put Stanford with Etchingham in the evenings, they had good chemistry. Send Thompson back out in the field, he was an outstanding reporter but he doesn't suit indoor life just like Michael Nicholson (that's one for older readers). Rubin doesn't impress me at all, it's like amateur hour.

I disagree. The relaxed weekend approach is just fine. Martin's show this morning was great too.
Ah, good old Michael Nicholson................."cross flannel cherries" and "The Princess Boil" (as opposed to "Royal") and "love link to The Houses of Westminster"
On Sky Digital there is a channel for the forthcoming Sky Three Channel, on it is a very interesting Sky promo, in it it shows Julie Etchingham's Sky News bit, however in the official trailer, they edit the bit where James Rubin walks into the room that Julie departs from!
Anyway here's the freq, it will download onto your Sky Digibox as 5103

Very different maybe, but its what I've been wanting for years, something informal that fits into the busy lives of people. People no longer want the 'BBC' style of news and that is why I think given a little time for people to adapt Sky News have a winning formula, informal and 'appointment to view news where newsreaders are humans, chat and talk to us as humans.
I have aways hated BBC news 24 and now Sky news has upped its game ( don't underestimated the power of a new studio and all those wide shots) it really shows the BBC up. Sky have really been flaunting the studio so far, and I praise them for doing so, it sends the message 'This is SKY News,
NEWS CHANNEL OF THE YEAR,
and this is how we do it.
I find now that these wide shots and pans around the studio, combined with the 'God' voice over at the beginning really sends a shiver down my spine. Its just got that feeling that sends you into awe.
Although is it me or does Rubin make people want to commit sucicide. His tone is so boring and have you noticed how they have to turn the 'bed' music right down because his voice just can't keep up with it.
Another thing Kay Burley, great presenter, feel sorry for her son though(anybody that knows a thing or two about SKY News, when they hear Alexander Burley is going to think of him as Kay's son) seems to look away from the camera when she reads the 'contact us' details. Whether she can't remember 'news@sky.com and 84501' is a different matter but it just looks odd, and when she looks back to the camera she does so in that sassy kind of way. I'm just not keen on it I suppose.
For many of us, yes it was a bit of an anti-climax, but to the ordinary viewer, I suspect it would have a had a pretty big impact.
