I hadnt seen this anywhere, but Media Guardian reported this today in an article about Heart 106.2Fm and Capital, a new showbiz programme on a saturday apparently.
Quote:
Harriet Scott, who has switched from presenting with Coleman to Theakston, has also just landed a Saturday evening showbusiness programme, on Sky News.
I'm really not enjoying the new Sky News. It's just sytle over substance...and the style ain't that great.
So what if some woman presents each piece to camera from a different part of the set? So what if the desk rotates...it's stupid.
It actually goes to show how good News 24 actually is. Not only is the N24 set very sleek, but the content absolutly reigns supreme over Sky's.
I would have to agree with you Dog, at the end of the day, content is king and must come first. News 24 have managed to combine both substance with style.

I disagree. I don't think the News 24 set is particularly sleek - I think it looks cramped and plasticy.
Why is it stupid? They've got lots of space, and it adds a nice touch. I don't think it harms the channel to have plenty of positions to present things from. Let's not forget, News 24 have three presentation areas to do things from (mostly as a response to what Sky did in 2002)... I don't see you calling that stupid. The rotating desk allows them to do different backdrops, so the WNT show has a different 'feel' to it than the others - and that works well.
The content of News 24 remains OK, but the 'interminable' two ways are still there, sometimes they seemingly can't be bothered/can't do lives more than once, so they end up with ''earlier I spoke to the BBC's...'' and playing out a recorded interview with a correspondent, which is just poor.

I agree completely. The whole revamped Sky News is gimmicky. It may have seemed impressive at first, but having the same gimmicks 24/7 has already become tiresome, for me. It's all saying "Look at us, look how great we are" and I don't want that from a news channel. There's no need.
Whenever I turn to News 24 from Sky News these days it's like a breath of fresh air. The set may not be as flashy, but it's good, down to earth news, and it's not packed with gimmicks to try to make us feel as if we're watching something grandiose.
I know that in the past I have been pretty stident in my support for BBC News 24 and I have to admit to feeling some sort of vindication...
Sky News' relaunch is all style and no substance. Tonight I made the effort to watch James Rubin (given who he was and the story tonight from the States) and I was wholly underwhelmed.
He had ONE guest from the US - a former colleague from Clinton's camp. In contrast BBC News 24 were live at the Washington Bureau with panel discussions and also had a live point on Capitol Hill and were interviewing leading Republicans like Orrin Hatch.
Yes, Sky's set is impressive, yes there are lots of angles and yes the desk moves in circles (like Blankety Blank) but remember it's called Sky
News
- not Sky Nice Set or Sky With Sexy Camera Angles.
And I'm glad to see that I'm not alone in my view...
According to Sky Digital overnights, on Wednesday All Day viewings; BBC News 24 averaged 34,000 versus Sky's 28,000 viewers.
