Sky News - Anna Jones does a live walk.
Thom Woodworth posted:
Interesting end to sky.com / news on TV and online, on TV a very abrupt end with no top videos, Anna Jones simply cut across the interviewee and the picture went off. Online however, we get the quiz answers, whilst seeing Anna log off the computer and walk down to the elbow, all on air.

how stupid. Poor mare had to log off and on again - why couldn't they havelet her use a tablet for 1/2 hr? Utter stupiity. Other than that it was quit a good idea. Maybe how they could do some of the coming up sequences going into the top of the hour.
e.g. at 8:58 - Eamonn could get up and walk over to Dermot at the desk and perch there while they have a little chinwag (or maybe not!).

I can see the reason behind logging on and off...lots of people do that..
What I don't get is clearly a bit of effort went in to following her down the stairs with the jib yet its only seen by those watching on line! Why not use stuff like that on air occassionaly?
I always thought the lack of creative shots and use of the whole newsroom set, jibs etc was sometimes down to cost of staffing the studio but maybe not..

But I much prefered it in the days when they just used the tablet and no unecessary laptops etc...
The no moton shots etc is something that has come down from on high and is something that I have always disagreed with. There was all this talk of back to basics, however, back to basics does not mean you can't have a bit of fun and a little bit of stylised content and graphics. After all the 1991 versions of Sunrise and Live at 5 prove that.
BTW WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO THE MEZZ?
Looks like that is well and truly the 'sky news online studio' now by the looks of that hideous bench thing and those draws behind. Eww, and I really liked it as well.
Possibily they made those chanes around the time that the former sunrise desk turned up at Westminster?

I agree! When Sky News relaunched in 2005 it looked fantastic, but with the ratings and some people not liking all the moving and walking around (such as Ginny/Kay walking up and down the stairs) they changed there minds on how the set would be used.
I think that when they got this criticisim, they thought going back-to-basics, sitting behind a desk, like News 24 would make the ratings go up. Obviously they haven't and now the studio looks terrible, just un-used. The newsroom is lifeless, it used to be loud and busy, and it made the everything more energetic.
Now they've cluttered everything up, putting a laptop and goodness knows what on the elbow. The newswall pod has a computer screen tucked underneath it, and the mezz - well I haven't any idea why its used less and why they've chucked a massive desk in there, on the video we seen with Anna, it looked terrible!
It was so much better when the mezz was used now and then during programmes, remember, Afternoon Live used to use it when Sky News first relaunched. Aswell as Sunrise and SNT for sport updates.
Just look at how simple it looked before:

And how good the Newswall Pod looked - especially with the great views of the newsroom:

I really hope Sky News decide to start using the set again, what's the point in spending so much money on a set that isn't used to its full potential?

That last one is great Josh - Dermot should be up their doing his thing from their. And yes, could we please address their obsession with big computer screens, and in particular that hideous black box underneath pod. What? Why?
