Unfortunatley i gather John Ryley did not approve of the idea and it is a case of starting all over again.
Well I guess I can understand that...it was radical.
As it now seems to have been dropped, can you tell us what it was like?

Im not sure what exactly was used on air, but there was a whole load of new music completed in September, this is one of the TOTH Beds which were part of this mostly unused top up package for Sky. This is the same update package that the beds used on sky.com / news with Martin come from!
Is this what has been used over the past few days?

No, the only tweak that seems to have taken place is the countdown ident at the very top of the hour. There seems to be a bit of a deeper bass to it.
That aside, that music is very impressive - a fresh modern remix of the Sky News theme, something that is very much needed after over 2 years of the same, and something that's a million times better than the awful headline and coming up beds that they currently use.
Something to look out for in the new year perhaps?
Presentation wise, a real shake up is needed. Scrap the single headed bulletins. They're dull. What's the point in having a presenter just for news updates? Stick them at the desk and let them dual-anchor the programmes.
Surely they're not saving any real amount of money by having 2 presenters, but not having them on air at the same time?
Studio - what an absolute waste. I can understand the logistics of setting up programmes etc i.e. Afternoon Live needs to set up for a smooth transition from Sky News Today. However - what about the other 3 or so hours? Surely the set could be used a bit more, instead of just elbow, desk, desk, desk, elbow, newswall, elbow, desk, desk ad-nauseum.
Perhaps, just perhaps, Sky ought to take a leaf out of Fox News' presentational book. Not in terms of right-wing excessive leanings, but in terms of clearly defined shows with their own titles and themes, and a bit more "oomf" to the presentation style. Just something that's really lacking from the channel at the moment.

That music does sound like a nice revamp, shame somebody doesn't want to see the channel improve in any way.
It's as though he's been brought with the brief to take the ratings down so that they can remove it from freeview.
I was looking at an old clip of the old Martin & Julie Sky News Today, back at the old studio, where the show felt so different, mainly as it broke out from the desk and explored the newsroom, and really made a great use of the small set that they had. Where as now seems to be the oposite. The set was built to add variety and to be used and explored as it was back in 2005, but they just don't seem to.
Is it true that programmes like the original Sky News Today, Martin Stamfords programme and now sky.com news are editorially different because Martin himself has a say in things?
If so... why not give him control of the channel he seems to know what he's doing with his sections, it's the rest of the channel that is up a creek without a paddle!

Exactly what I've been thinking. You know, Mr Murdoch getting involved could be the best thing thats happened to the channel since 2005.

I've heard something similar. He was apparently the person who brought the tablet PC's to the channel.

I think it would be fair to say that some presenters such as Martin and Kay are keen to do things their own way. Good on them.

They actually sound really fresh, more pacey than the current set...shame that its unlikey they will be on air!

One of the beds are used on air, on sky.com/news. The stings are really radical... I guess thats why they rejected them and hense the stings have never been used on air. Anyway looking forward to some more changes in the coming months, and no doubt there will be!
