Well they fooled me, after such a tiring day at Uni, the newswall fooled me there you all happy!
They still need better quality images to go on the screen, so they are not all pixelated.
Also they need to update all the backings like they did with the newspaper one, and perhaps when they have a top story, the 2way graphic could use an image in the background, with the glass cubes ontop.
So Ryley's axed presenters and now he's given the newswall the heave-ho LOL.
Actually looks very good, strange time of night to launch it though, 10pm on a Wednesday.
Looks very nice from the screen caps - haven't seen it live. Addresses lots of the problems of the previous Newswall use - giving it a newsroom feel, and using the newswall for down-the-lines is a good use of it.
Kind of like taking bits of the current and previous BBC News looks - i.e. fake newsroom background and virtual screens in a real screen - and applying them to the current Sky set.
Core artwork is very well designed though.
Only downside of the Sky Newswall is that it is only something like 432 pixels high (normal standard def TV is 576 lines) - so you can never really use it in tight close-ups without it breaking up into pixels.
The BBC News backdrops in their studios are HD - which means they can be shot in close-up - though the graphics and VT dropped in are still standard def and can go blocky...
The images on the westminster screens have changed- tower logo with new background and also the globe has gone from the end of the sky online videos- replaced with the 3d logo and new background
On real close ups you can see the people working at their computers almost below the newswall. I hope we still get presentations from the newswall though, thats what set sky apart.
Looks superb now - it's the strips of white which make it work as it's believable when video feeds are added to the screen - it means when they are used they don't look like they're floating in the middle of the newsroom - which is the main problem IMO with ITV's atrium view.
