Though I'm still not fond of sole presenting. It may work for live at 5 and afternoon live, but why not make the other bulletins such as Sky News Today very different (hopefully they will in the new year with Dermot), and have them marching around the actual newsroom as they introduced in the old sky news studio.

I think they ditched the stupid walks at the top of hour quite quickly - as they were, quite frankly, pointless... Sky's red arrows formation walking was hilarious - and mocked in many quarters. (Especially when poor Anna Jones took a tumble)

The contrived walks on ITV News were bad enough, but Sky took them to whole new levels of ridicule.

(The audience obviously agreed - as they left Sky News in droves post-relaunch)

I meant pre relaunch, when Martin and Julie would go and just stand in the newsroom, and then to the screen and to the desk, it was good, added pace to the daily line up. Something which they over did with the new studio. Perhaps it is too much studio, but I wish they would make more use of it. Such as stand in the actual newsroom parts of it, and use the stairs, etc. It adds something different than just sitting there, which is what I don't want to happen to ITV News either.

It looked like a huge cube spinning at a very slow pace. Looks neat though.

From watching that clip, it's something that Sky News should do more, not have cheerleaders, but to on a slow news day enjoy themselves a bit more, this is what Steve and Mark were doing back in 2005 and something that made it more watchable, especially rolling news when it's the same every hour, its nice to have something to make it feel different.

Rolling news channels are not there to be entertaining, they're there to deliver the news - whether it's slow or not. Rolling Eyes

You have plenty of opportunities to see newsreaders dance, skate and be "wacky" these days. Let's not let it creep into the news itself. Rolling Eyes

Oh how wrong you are. Pointless? No way. They made and continue to make BBC News 24 look like a poor relation. Their studio looks enormous and the opening in Afternoon Live and the old sky news today etc from the pod were both excellent in portraying this. They make the competition look very staid boring and dare I say it, traditional.

'Mocked in many quarters'. Where exactly? As soon as the BBC could they had their own presenters standing up by a big screen making wild hand gestures. Mocked I think not. Channel 4 and itv are both the same really, a nice mix and then there's five...oh...

Ok Five started the screen thing, but look who took it to another level...and look who copied it. Mmm, ridiclue and mocking may be...but the same people are very quick to eat humble pie when they it's not so bad.

'Sky took them to whole new levels of ridicule' - One of sky's most 'active' shows was Lunchtime Live - it was the success of the relaunch, and that showed kay. I don't see anybody ridiculing that show. Kay maybe. But Afternoon/Lunchtime Live no.

You can not dispute viewing figures...but then I've always hatedthem. They are never indicative of the product that you as a channel dish up. Look at Fox News, it manages to smash the competition quite comfortably but I don't see anybody racing to give them a medal. Viewers mean nothing at the end of the day.

fanoftv - I'd love to see 'Sky Today' or whatever it's called given a revamp. Take it back to the newswall at least although I just can't see Dermot looking that comfortable in a newsroom environment. Kay and Emma are an example of a good team. Bring Colin in a bit more, having said that though it's one thing having two gals having a chat but Dermot and Colin I think not!

JCB - Get lost. This is the naughties mate, times change.
