So EtchySketchy is leaving sky according to tvnewsroom.

Probably for the best really, she's been shunted from pillar to post over the past few years.


Can't believe there isn't much more of a reaction to this. If true it seems strange because Julie was always a Sky News favourite it seemed, even picked to present the UK and US election coverage. Is she leaving or has she been sacked?

I think the reason there has been little reaction is becuase Sky News is so poor at the moment that people are just not bothered anymore.

My understanding is Julie is leaving Sky "to pursue other interests". Not entirely sure what that means but thats what im told.

Cant say i have seen much of Dermot,does anyone rate him?

IMO very similar to Colin Brazier, good, polished, but lacking in character?

But i wonder then is there any need for him?

Why not just give Colin the slot,drop the news summaries and in the process save the supposed 7 figure sum being payed to Dermot.

Perhaps the money could be put towards the graphics department!!

Colin has much more talent to put to use rather than being a headline reader, but the thing is Dermot is a household name, and we all know how Sky loves their names.

Of course Dermot isn't the first BBC Breakfast presenter to jump ship, Laurie Mayer did, and of course Selina Scott (tho she had left Breakfast Time by the time she joined)

If Etchingham is leaving it really is a come down from a few years ago when Stanford & herself were hosting Sky News Today and were one of the best partnerships on the channel,then she was given The Sky Report when the channel relaunched and then she went on maternity leave.When she comes back from maternity leaves the MD has changed,she was never really given a slot and now she hosts a very boring 4 hour slot named "Sky Today".Sad to see her going as for a long time she was deemed as the new face of Sky News.

It is a bit bizarre that a channel that sells itself on 'breaking news' has to leave it's new single headed format in order to report it!

I can't believe Julie is leaving, she was one of my favorites although she was boring on her own,but that's not her fault. I hope she goes to CNN.

She's got kids folks, probably was planning on holding out to the end of her contract then just quietly leaving. I think she's got two.
