Sky News website should change. it's annoying waiting for the main headline to appear with the top story flash thing.

Oh for f*ck sake! You can't even wait 2 seconds? I like the new look Sky news website, it is much better than BBC News and ITV news websites.

Media Guardian reporting that News 24 has increased it's lead over Sky News ..

Headline from them
BBC News 24 has continued to increase its lead over Sky News, with figures showing the licence-fee funded channel has opened up a 0.2% gap over its commercial rival.

I suppose it's kind of inevitable that News 24 will increase its share. Sky News is still the most watched news channel on Sky as the viewers are the ones who are the most open to multi-channel viewing and won't watch something just because it's the BBC. Freeview viewers are probably the ones who are the most cynical about Sky.

The article mentions that Sky are planning to pull Sky News off Freeview - I thought this wasn't happening now? AIUI this was only an idea that was discussed at Sky and not their concrete plans, something which I'm sure I read they'd decided against eventually.

I thought it got bogged down in Ofcom and won't be resolved until next year. Vague answer, but I can't remember the detail - sorry!

Breakfast News
Noticed that yesterday afternoon, Julie was on her own - this happened on the morning shift a wee while ago, with Martin on his own. I know its holiday season..but in years gone by, cover was always brought in. Anyone think that this is a sign that each slot will just be singled anchored - a cost cutting measure, perhaps?

Paul Bromley posted this on his blog in response to being asked about the next part of the graphics revamp.

You may have noticed the wipes and stings on major news stories.

Also, more bespoke Key Points graphics related to the specific story.

And we have introduced "SkyVirtual" for the graphic reconstructions and explanations.

There have been other innovations too, such as:

:: the online message boards https://messageboards.sky.com/Default.aspx

:: the launch of SkyCast http://www.skycast.com/

:: and web-only TV http://skynews7.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/08/our-new-web-tv-.html

Plus more changes to come ...

Any idea when the top of the hour will be updated. I thought it was supposed to be mid-summer?

I'd personally be inclined to forget the idea of this new toth. It's only been around for 6 months.
