Yes you're right. Having decided that it is a major story, they really pull out all the stops. Anna and Kay are working well together, they also have interesting reports and interviews. The only time they have come from London this morning I think is for weather and sport.

With the website, Active and the ticker all running through other stories, there's no real need to move away from the story which most people in the UK are interested in.

I don't doubt this for a second - but surely there is no need to send THREE presenters (Jeremy Thompson is there now as well).

Remember the Virginia Tech shootings? I know its not exactly the same scenario, but the BBC were lambasted for sending just one presenter (Emily Maitlis) to the scene.

So Kay, Anna and Jeremy all working today in Portugal.

Maybe Live at Five will see Botting and Thompson reunited on screen today, albeit in Portugal and albeit in rather unfortunate circumstances.

Perhaps they do, but that's no good reason for Sky to lose a sense of proportion on this. I'm in Central Asia currently with access to BBC World, Sky News, and CNN. Sky really have gone OTT, actually they couldn't give a monkey's about the poor girl's welfare, it's just cheap and easy to cover. There's hardly an avalanche of information coming in, I've just heard Botting use the expression, 'Non Stop Coverage '; FFS ! I sincerely hope this has a happy outcome, but Sky really do need to get a grip. If only Ofcom had more balls they'd stamp this nonsense out.

I agree this is really too much.

Haha, whilst I agree about your comments on the OTT front, I suspect if there's one thing this isn't, it's "cheap".

Can't be easy on the wallet to send three of your top presenters, a lot of correspondents, and get a load of equipment out there and broadcast all weekend non-stop.

I do agree that the coverage is very over the top, but this is the sort of coverage that Sky thrives on - a human interest story that they can throw all of their resources at.

The last thing we need is for a government body to start telling news channels how they can cover stories. If you don't like it, watch something else.

Also - not that I am dismissing any efforts to put those poor parents out of their misery, but does anyone else feel slightly uncomfortable with Sky News's 'poster campaign'?

They seem to be using every opportunity to tell us that 'people across Europe have been downloading posters of Madelaine from the Sky News website'.

Sounds like the kind of thing we would normally attribute to a tabloid newspaper, and not a 'respected' television news organisation.

And you know damn well that on the off chance that Madeleine is found as a result of these posters, Sky News will take great pleasure in gloating about it for weeks on end.

Had you had any knowledge of the story you would know that sky didn't produce this poster it was the McCann family and it was sent to all major broadcasters.

Fair enough, but the point is that Sky News have been very particular in broadcasting the fact that the poster has been downloaded from THEIR website, and are therefore acting the hero. That doesn't wash with me personally - I see that as taking advantage of a situation for your own personal gain.

The BBC have it available on its website as well, but Jane Hill hasn't been gloating about people downloading it all day.

It's just typical tabloid Sky News.

But, as I stated at the start of my previous post, I am not dismissing any efforts to put those poor parents out of their misery

As much as feel for the poor girl, have Sky news got no other news? I got in from work and the first thing i always do is put the news on to see whats been happening and Sky is always my first choice. For a full hour they had nothing but this story running. I've had to go to the Beeb for a full round up the days news.

Sky have gone OTT on this story.

I hope she's found, really i do but enough is enough. A 10 minute bulletin on the TOTH would suffice.
