Ok bad phrasing. I meant that the same amount of time allotted for this single incident is afforded to every bomb with similar casualties -- which it clearly isn't. There's no blanket coverage, multiple eye-witness reports continuously. In any case Britain obviously has interests in that area so it will be featured to some extent. Dafur is probably a better example, only picked up on when news orgs. want to. I get the impression it's all a bit Littlejohn when deciding what to run, i.e:

"Does anyone really give a monkey's about what happens in Rwanda? If the Mbongo tribe wants to wipe out the Mbingo tribe then as far as I am concerned that is entirely a matter for them"

I don't think Sky News need to brag about their new website in so much detail on TV...

You are missing the point. The media is there to report the events of the day, no matter how big or small. The shootings yesterday were a major unfolding event, hence they covered it. Over 30 people died...you don't call that a major story? Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean it shouldn't be covered. There are many people living in the UK who have relatives in the US and/or travel there frequently. Also, it isn't just the event but also the consequences, hence the debate over gun laws.

It is a big story.... but is essentially a US domestic story, as is the 'debate over gun laws'. Covering it as it's unfolding - yes, make it top story that evening - yes, but from then on just feature it as a short item whenever a new detail emerges.

The amount of coverage the story has been given is purely because of its location (the US) if it happened in any other country ecept for the UK or Ireland it wouldn't have got half the amount of coverage

I think this was all due to be changed, but I'd be surprised if it was tomorrow. I would love to be proved wrong though.

Beslin got a similar amount of coverage, although it was a different situation.
