A more successful TOTH at 1 - but no namecheck for Martin

Is it me, or does the new Sky News logo resemble The Sun's logo slightly?

I wouldn't mind as long as the weather girls did the weather topless...

Excuse the rudimentary approach, but this is what I was going on about ealier about them needing to look after the 4:3 safe areas.

This is the report in question on my 14" TV set. The text is chopped off at the side.

fantastic set, music and graphics. parts of the new format do seem gimicky, but i'd imagine bits will be dropped and tweaked over time - i would have felt let down had sky not taken the opportunity to experiment with things.

let hope the new tidier, less daily star-esque graphics set a trend that the others will follow. top of the hour sequence is fantastic - and the whole concept of moving around the set-come newsroom and carrying that concept through all aspects of the look will hopefully make the studio iconic, in the way that the ITN building became such a familiar backdrop on itv in the past.

as an aside, sky have been quite lucky* with the news today having the pictures of the baghdad bomb and the hurricane for the toth sequence. i'm not sure more footage of david davis/cameron/bird flu would have had quite the same dramatic impact.

(*in presentational terms of course, with the greatest respect to the dead/injured)

Pretty poor - I'm also assuming Francis must be appearing rather decapitated on the weather forecast, which is awfully framed.

Although I love the set, music and more I think the titles will get very old very quickly. I imagined something more like this:

The use of the globe is everywhere, the straps, newswall its. It feel's missing from the titles. But as people have said, they change the titles often enough without a huge rehash of everything so time will tell.

(Sorry to people trying to get caps/vids, my host should be back tommrrow when I can afford to pay for some more bandwidth)

I agree...but when I saw it, I couldn't help but think I'd seen it done before...

...Oh yes that's it - it's Midlands Today's Shefali Oza and David Gregory involved in some hot paper exchanging in a trailer for the programme a couple of years back.

Nothing like hindsight is there *cough*.

(And something else re their promos which feature clapper boards with presenters talking about their shows... surely if Sky News is always live, why the need for clapper boards? Is this a case of style over content - on Sky News? Shome mishtake shurely?)

Those paticular promos are shot on film instead of video, as are most adverts in general, adds a bit of production value. You need to use a clapper board when using film to sync the sound to the video.

Maybe it was style over content, but it's a promo. It's no biggy!

I totally agree, I didn't get a chance post my thoughts on him earlier, but he is a total shocker, bloody awful. When Julie introduced us to Jamie, as said by her. He began to talk before he was in vision and then started again, and a few other times he started to early, or made a pause and repeated himself. And his accent is really bad i think. Something im glad I dont have to watch everynight!
