I am sure it will be back where it was come 01.00 hours.

Well not exactly - the tower went away altogether for a few minutes. I'm guessing they forgot to turn it back on after the weather.

Why doesn't the clock and date go off along with the tower? It just looks weird without the logo.

Very true Ant.
However, the TOTH was better with only the tower logo used after the weather!
I have to disagree with you about the yellow and black for 'breaking news'. I think that they need to sort this out and have yellow and black scrolling along the newswall as well though.
It is inconsistent to have yellow and black on the ticker while it is red and white on the newswall.

To be honest with a few tweaks, there's a chance the graphics could look half respectable. The white line above the ticker just looks wrong to me and I think it would look a lot neater without it. The yellow breaking news ticker is a bit of a gimmick and I can't see it lasting, along with the rotating logo (unless they have some sort of clever use for it that hasn't been unveiled yet).

There is obviously some inspiration from CNN going on, particularly with the presenter name and Top Stories graphics - if they rejig the name astons slightly to look a bit neater (maybe having the story part of them lining up with the "Sky" of the logo) then it would probably look a hell of a lot better.

So to summarise, I like the underlying ideas but the execution is abysmal.

it is also very inconsistent when they dont use the tower logo
Such as the desk screen had the globe backdrop, the long logo and the web address

they need to make everything into the tower really
otherwise the entire thing will look messed, even more so Wink

I can't believe that this is what the News Channel of the Year has churned out! Whatever happened to "trying to reduce on-screen furniture", as Sky claimed they aimed to do back in October 2005? Content-wise, the channel has gone downhill so much since then, and now presentation has gone down so many notches it's embarrassing. And this off the back of a very good News 24 revamp...

Sky News has its good points but they're getting fewer and fewer.

Why have they changed again? I don't see the point, except now they have a logo tower just after BBC N24 got rid of theirs.

The spinning logo just makes me think of FOX. The only advantage is that I can see the ticker now, where as I can't on N24 since my Bush TV overscans.

I'm yet to see a TOTH, I assume that's changed. I thought all this wasn't going to happen until Sunrise at 6am.

PS: I loved the story about Sabena/Belgian Airlines having to paint an extra ball on all their planes because people thought 13 was a bad number!

WTF 1: Is Fox News supplying content in 16:9 now? I saw this interview this morning on FNC via the normal way, and I presumed it was only 4:3. Looking at the position of the Fox News logo, there seems to be more there though.

WTF 2: Has Fox News Sunday always had this look? The logo is spinning the other way (!! OMG LOLZ !!), the straps are now clean, new and animated, and last but not least, the ticker is completely gone.

But then after this show they've gone back to their normal look.

So is there something between Fox News Sunday and UK Sky maybe??

Never mind that! Look at this completely unco-ordinated use of astons which clearly interfere with the new Sky News ones Shocked

Well here is a montage of the new TOTH, which is sadly lacking in gravitas really ....

Ends with no graphics and a rather regular view of an empty news centre (although it was 0300) Rolling Eyes

Sky News graphics have looked rubbish for years. Cheap, 2D, lacking in texture or warmth. I assume they've done research - maybe people like them because they're simple.

Give them a fair cop -- the 2005 revision made excellent use of animation. 2D is actually more modern than 3D in many ways. Check out some of the whooshy, flying text from American news networks over ten years ago -- they've all gone nowhere since then. Whooshing flying words are so 1990s.

Sky News 2005 had some very swish ways of replacing one set of static text with another. In fact it's a shame they didn't use that technique overall to do away with scrolling text altogether.

Oh one more nitpick --

Now with the new TOTH font, the words don't fit in the centre vertically anymore!

Gosh.

And now I've noticed the old strap logo on the bottom of the Sky News International service (ie, Sky News UK in the Active service in Australia). It's been added to the bottom of the breakfiller, and was never there before.

What a cheap and nasty mess, nothing matches anymore. And what's with that weather box during Sunrise, pointless and partially off the screen.

It all looks like The Sun on TV.
