Its bit of a snap decision.. Sky have said they will tear up the schedule if they have breaking news. Today there wasnt really any breaking news that warrented ditching everything else for long periods..I'm sure as soon as there is something they would.

Just seen a bit of the more 'traditional' style presenting with both presenters sat at the desk- but they seem so far away..

If the "appointment-to-view" programmes such as "The Sky Report" and "Lunchtime Live" succeed in bringing increased viewership and penetration to the masses, as I suspect they will, there will be little concern in Nick Pollard's mind that he has "killed" the Sky News that pcuk et al loved and lament the loss of.

The studio is beautiful, the graphics are elegant and the music (but not the ident) at the TOTH is outstanding.

Maybe 'Jamie' Rubin is just getting settled in, but he really came across as incredibly uncomfortable during WNT.

James Rubin hasnt actually presented before, IIRC

Sky News is his first anchorman job, give him a few days let him find his feet, I like him anyway, something different!

I've only managed to catch a small bit of the events today and overall I think the Presentation is far better, the TOTH music and ident is fantastic, it gives a serious feel to it that you don't get from the BBC or ITV. Aston wise it is a hell of alot better, it doesn't clog up the screen like it used to (yet) and although it appears rather basic, it looks quite nice.

I managed to catch World News Tonight, it was okay, you could tell Rubin felt a bit uncomfortable presenting, the Blair interview went on a bit too long, it didn't feel like much World News was in the programme.

But this is the first day and they're showing off and getting Exclusives, so I'll give it a couple of weeks to settle in to make my mind up, it should be more like the old Sky News by that time.

Plus I'll be able to catch Sunrise tomorrow, which does look promising and a better alternative at 6.00am.

It was first day vibe from everyone to an extent. I think he will be quite good once he loosens up a bit and gets settled in.

I've just been struck by what it feels like to me - a BBC general election studio set. It just feels a bit OTT for basic news. Impressive, well executed, but not sure I completely see the point.

I'm sure some aspects will bed down, some will be quietly ditched and some new innovations will appear.

The rotating desk is SO Blankety Blank it struck me as faintly ridiculous. The LED wall is fantastic. The 3 people round a pod chatting is a bit annoying - I don't really care what they think to be honest. The astons are fresh and clear. The animation on them is a bit wearing, but the branding of the wipes and the astons is very classy. The music is OK but nothing special - nicely produced - but a bit of a cliche. There are REAL over-tones of the Day Today to the whole thing. (The rotating desk in particular)

James Rubin is obviously uncomfortable - but he may well grow into the role. (He presented a few Hardtalks a while back) In fact a lot of the presenters seemed quite on-edge. Kay and Jeremy were both stumbling a lot more than usual - Jeremy even forgot the website address.

There were quite a few headlines hitting black (the joys of News Control anyone?) and some quite over-the-top scripting. The Live at 5 intro is particularly patronising (overtones of the Rise Six Pack anyone?)

There also seems to be some radio mic issues - as I've heard some break-up / interference on a number of presenters (not just weather). Wonder if there is a local taxi company nearby...

Not true.

"Indeed, my first journalistic assignment was to anchor a Public Broadcasting System (PBS) documentary series in America in 2002 and 2003 that produced high-quality documentaries from around the world."

(And something else re their promos which feature clapper boards with presenters talking about their shows... surely if Sky News is always live, why the need for clapper boards? Is this a case of style over content - on Sky News? Shome mishtake shurely?)

The promos will have been shot single camera (rather than using the studio cameras) - so you'd expect some form of slate to be used. That said - the posh timecode ones may well have been used for effect.

On the big story of today, the Baghdad blasts - Sky News were very definitely a woeful second place. By my count News 24 had the pictures on the telly more than 5 minutes before Sky.

I suspect Sky are playing safe today - and not running before they can walk with their new systems. I think they'd rather be clean on-air than first today - and understandably so. If they are now using production system similar to those that ITN and BBC News 24 use then they may still be on the slopes of a steep learning curve. By the number of clips hitting black we've seen today, and the number of wrong shape pictures.

The Hilversum live into the Sky News Report with Julie Etchingham was the wrong aspect ratio for the whole duration of the interview I think - it was 4:3 and not converted to 16:9. It screamed at me when I glanced up and saw it - I suspect it is something that many in the Sky News operation will not be used to worrying about - though they've been doing 16:9 News since RISE, and Five News.

I'm not quite sure what it was about today: either it was a relatively slow news day, with few big stories worth breaking, or a case of everyone bedding in to their new surroundings and not wanting to break anything new. I had the channel on at work between 10 and 6, and didn't see many shifts in the running order throughout the day, the bomb in Baghdad excepted.

As others have said, they have become rather introverted. But they've spent more than a few pennies on a new studio, and are understandably keen to show it off. Once it's had a week or two to bed in, I'm sure they'll start using it more sensibly.

There are parts which look odd: 3 presenters at the desk and just one of them talking. Again, I'm sure they'll work on these.

I'm interested to see how they'll deal with, say, 4am on a Saturday - will Michael Watkins look rather lonely in the middle of the newsroom, or have they got a shot lined up for that already?
Or how would they now cope with a bit of presentation which recently impressed me quite a bit on a slow news day: the Liverpool victory parade. Would they handle it the same way as before (JT on location and a sports presenter in the studio, just filling in as a voiceover where required), or are they going to make use of something swish in the studio for that?

It needs bedding in, for sure. But visually, it looks rather nice.
