I really can't see colour coding working. How can a shooting in London be compared, for example, with 50 peple being killed in Iraq, or a takeover of a large business in terms of importance? There are countless types of breaking news, and I think it would be too hard to use a colour scale to analyse each story's significance.
Saying that, I could understand about using a different colour regarding a major story, suh as a terrorist attack, but the occurence of these are releatively rare.

Wouldn't be that new for Sky though. They did used to have a sting to introduce breaking news. It was ditched in the late 90s, though.
It sounds as though this set of graphics is going to be a bit more 'intelligent' than the previous ones.
I can see colour coding working for the very regular viewer, but for the passing viewer I think it could be quite confusing.
Would be interesting to know whether the graphics have been designed by journalists or designers. I suspect the latter, and that's why they'll probably be changed within a few weeks when the journalists realise they can't work with them very easily.
