why do Sky think this is a good idea?

Its cheap, no paying guests etc and silly little costs like that, and they get a popular and seasoned presenter on day-time where they obviously want to fight the fight.

If I were sky I would put him back on Daytime, sure his program was the best thing on sky news but there are others if they had wanted them that could have taken over, obviously not.

Vikki: Welcome to TV Forum,I see you've made the switch from Tv Newsroom, it's a smal world eh? I'll be honest, I'm not made about Colin, although it may have something to do with the fact that I'm a bloke and straight - I tend to go after women. Wink

EDIT: All though I'm a more brunette sort of guy than a blonde one, ohh and i hate leeds United - so I guess that's me off the Christmas card list Exclamation

vicky23 welcome to TV Forum, and yes it is very stupid to have the same 3 or 4 sories repeating every 15 minutes. It would be better if they put regular Sky News on the hour with 2 presenters who would do Sky News @ 10 too.

I can't believe that this 15-minute cycle will last. I expect after a while they'll move back to a 'classic' Sky News format.

I cannot believe how much both BBC News 24 and Sky News are borrowing from the now defunct ITV News Channel.

ITV NC had it's problems but it seems that now it has gone BBC News 24 have gone much more for the dual-presented hours with light banter that ITVNC used to have. Previously these BBC News 24 presenters were essentially just presenters who didnt really seem to have much personality - whereas now I feel that have got it exactly right with the presenters character coming through and the presenters interacting with each other. It makes for a really watchable news channel.

I also see that BBCN24 have also introduced the same two line box in the bottom left corner which can feature the Breaking News graphic - in nearly exactly the same manner as ITVNC!

ITVNC began as ITN NC and began with 15 minute repeated bulletins before extending to the service that we eventuall knew as ITVNC. This seems to be exactly what SKy are opting for now!

Sky had ventured into Appointment To View but you have to be very choosey when to schedule these portions.

ITVNC had Alastair Stewart and Angela Rippon (and eventually Scott Chisholm) branded programmes and they worked on many grounds. The AR show worked because it was the weekend, not as many journalists were around to produce a normal weekend type rolling and produced during the week. Lessening the burden on a weekend. It gave the viewer something new and different from what the other news channels were offering.

Sky's appointment to view failed dismally for numerous reasons but essentially it drove away core Sky News viewers. The scheduling of the programmes was bad, the presenter line-up was poor and was it ATV really for ATV's sake?

The ATV programming needed to re-inforce the current line-up but in the end it undermined it and was detrimental to the overall output.

ITV obviously had a few good ideas, some nicked from sky, like the two lined box on the left...

Its a shame their news content was so populist and poor, compared to the beahmouth of the Beeb, and the speed, and enthusiasm of Sky News.

Why are the screens at the front of the desk so bright now? Or overly saturated?

Noticed that this mornings Sunrise had no ad breaks between the end of the show and the weather...just a straight run through. This in prep for simulcast on Sky One?

I haven't watched Sky News properly for months. I just can't, and I'm one of those people who used to have the channel on all day in the background when I was at home.

Now, people seem to be moaning that the rot set in at the revamp. Whilst I heartily agree that they balled that up (much to my disappointment), people seem to be forgetting that it had already become dull before that, which was one of the reasons why the revamp was so eagerly anticipated (aside from the usual Kleenex abuse revamps of anything bring on around here).

Sky News has lost its personality IMO, and I believe a big part of that is the way they've screwed around with the format and, in turn, the presenters. Somebody there seems to have forgotten that one of the things that made Sky News so personable was the presenters, and more specifically, the pairings.

Yes, I expect newsreaders to be serious first and foremost when it matters. But I also believe that 24 hour news is a different beast to bulletins. I like banter. What I liked about Sky News was the way you used to feel as if you were included in the studio, with the presenters, in a way that no amount of pressing the red button or sending in 3G videos can compensate for.

For me, they started to loose that element before the revamp, when they first began the "random presenter lottery" (I agree with whoever mentioned the loss of Simon McCoy and Bob Friend). Now it's even worse in that half the presenters (specifically those from post-revamp) don't seem to have a personality.

I mean, if the people who work at Sky News, both on screen and behind the scenes don't appear to give a damn, then why should I?

I'm a great believer in the idea of things going in circles. I know that one day, Sky News will remember where it put its soul and find its feet again. But right now, it's firmly in the doldrums as far as I'm concerned, and no amount of fancy graphics can cover that up.
