Must say, I'm not holding out much hope, either. Sky News hasn't had a truly decent set of graphics for several years now IMO, since they got rid of the 'classic' look for the 2001 election in favour of the weird interim set (although that did have a fab TOTH theme) that preceeded the widely derided 'slug' set.

I never particularly liked the set that came with the major revamp in 2005 and the current lot that have evolved from them are horrible - intrusive and cheap and nasty looking.

I will also add that I'm not a fan of the capitalized ticker, either - and that goes for the website as well.

Looking back at it, I do feel that it isn't as good as their current look, which when launched, were great.

The font spacing, the size of the straps, the layout of the ticker, etc, are all bad when compared to the current look.

Just found this on the Press Office site:

Sky Press Office posted:
Sky News is to provide the rolling news ticker to LG Electronics new giant LED screen in London’s Piccadilly Circus. Launching tonight (30th January 2007), the partnership will see Sky News providing a 24 hour, 7-day-a-week breaking news feed to accompany and compliment the pioneering computer generated imagery and high definition content developed by consumer electronics leader LG.

The site, which overlooks Piccadilly from the top of Haymarket, will be seen by more than 1.1 million people who pass through Piccadilly Circus each week.

The partnership with LG represents a further evolution of Sky News’ strategy to further extend the reach and accessibility of the channel. In addition to presence on digital television, the web and mobile phones, Sky News is increasing developing additional distribution platforms to offers consumers even more access to its award-winning breaking news content.

The ticker, which will run across the bottom of the screen, will stream through an IP connection a continuously updating feed offering the very latest in international and domestic news, sports, entertainment and weather.

The screen itself boasts the highest resolution in Piccadilly with an enhanced pixel count providing a clear, sharp picture.

Well, from the small picture on the Sky News Website, the ticker is black with the Sky News logo in between stories.

Regarding the re-vamped Sky News coming in a few weeks, the Sky News on screen logo looks set to become a tower, with straps using a chunkier "Impact" style of font. More gradients rather than solid colours being used too. But this is all early stages so anything could happen.

Hmm, so Sky had a tower and then N24 got a tower.
Sky then moved to a ticker and now N24 have moved to a ticker.
Rumours now suggest Sky going back to a tower, so how long before N24 go back to their tower... Very Happy

Some excellent coverage today from Sky News on the Birmingham arrests.

Output has been streamed live on line all day which has been very handy.

Why can't they stream live every day?
