What's the reason for the use of the full laptop instead of the usual tablet pc's that the use? Surely it'd make it look a lot less cluttered.
I hadn't realised they were so new, but did spot the rather unsubtle patch of gaffa tape on the front of them, covering up the manufacturer's logo

It does look an absolute state up there.

You really wouldn't believe that the same people designed the MSNBC and new Al-Jazeera studios, would you. Either that or the brief from Sky was "oh, just paint it all blue, it'll be quicker".

There are some parts of the studio that look absolutely stunning - the shoebox area, for instance - and others that are so cluttered they're presenting from a haberdashery shop.

Trouble is, the thing is so big that it's difficult to see what they can do in terms of refurbishments. Ho hum.

To take that to a higher level, one thing I could never understand is how they could totally relaunch Sky News with the studio they have now. I'm sure they won't keep the structure of the studio forever, and new techonology will come in and no doubt Sky would take advantage of it. But I bet if they were to relaunch there would be a few weeks in a temp studio.

There are other studios in the same building, one big one with a blue wall, so although not perfect, some options are available.

A few WEEKS?

Christ, remember a few years ago when they relaunched with a revamped studio and it took them the entire summer to do it. Even then they rushed the thing forward to get the studio in use for the war in Afghanistan, minus the new graphics.

I think it'll be a very long time before we see any significant changes to the existing studio.

This was originally mentioned on TV Newsroom Forums but I thought I may aswell mention it here.

On Wikipedia it says that Emma and Steve are getting married:
"It has been announced to sources at Sky News close to Emma Crosby and Steve Dixon that they have recently got engaged and are planning in getting married in late 2007"

Hmmm... I'm not so sure having heard one particular story. Plus, this has come from wikipedia - so doubt it's true.

I would be inclined to think there is some truth in it. Some of the looks they give each other and the things they say to each other I really can't see why they wouldn't be a couple.

For example the other week, Steve was talking about Emma and her alcopops and again on the 23rd Emma askeds Steve whether he had finished his Christmas shopping and said that he still had to go to some hotel shop - similing at Emma

Ah, Bless them. (puts on his best attempt at "God's" voice:

"Live from the Sky News Centre, this is Live at Five. With Steve Dixon and Emma Dixon."

"Live from the Sky News Centre, this is Sky News. With Mr and Mrs Dixon"

"Live from the Sky News Centre, this is Sky News Sunrise. With Steve Dixon and Emma Crosby-Dixon".

"Live from the Sky News Centre, this is Sky News. With Moira Stuart".

(The last one is just my own personal hope and ambition for 2007).

Happy New Year to Steve, Emma and all of you.
