The voice of God isn't telling us who's presenting at the TOTH for some reason during this segment. He was present on SNT between 9 and 12, I wonder why He isn't on now? It can't be because they haven't recorded one for Ginny, all the v/os have been updated (even Kay Burley's new show as opposed to the Live at Twelve as it was originally called) and Eamonn and Anna J had their names mentioned. Oh the politics of it all.

I think it's because the presenters are not moving away from their position - earlier the Anna's were walking away from the wall so there was something to show whist the v/o was playing...

I think they need a second title music, because playing the bed yeh it sounds ok, but there is something not right....

That whole walkover bit isnt right!

Yeh, but the point is , its different, and to be different it needs to work. So with a few tweaks made, it will be a powerful and a unique opening.

The opening is unique!!! they just need some more powerful music on there little walks instead of the headline bed.

WOO!! 300th Post in the Sky News Relaunch thread!!

Can someone please remind me from where Sky News now broadcasts from?

I'm guessing it's from their HQ in Isleworth?

Well, the scenes behind the 6 O'Clock News are all fake, and previously when they used to have the BBC newsroom, it was a loop, so sometimes you would see the same blokes walking about in the background and talking? I don't think Joe Public will notice. Laughing

The original newsroom backing wasn't a loop. It was a live shot on one screen, and then a reversed and delayed shot in the other screen - to avoid the mirror image of people walking downstairs.

When the bomb went off and the live shot had to be dispensed with a recorded loop was introduced.

I stand corrected re. the point about about the background loop. I must have got it confused with one of the more recent ones where they used to have the blokes standing in the background at the 'newsroom' of faux monitors displaying the old BBC News titles. That one, before they changed it again.

Quote:
I suspect that the workstations you can see with 3 LCDs are, like the BBC News 24 3xLCD PCs used for ingest and basic editing. You have one PC with the newsroom computer system, one computer that controls the server system, and a full-size monitor to look at the video. Much better than running with all three systems on one monitor - especially if you have to work quickly and accurately, and make judgements about 4:3/16:9 stuff.

The chairs will need to be pretty ergonomic if they are intensively used - and as they are in-shot they need to look pretty. I suspect they decided if they were spending £10millions on a set they could afford nice chairs.

The tablet PCs seem to be the same as used on Five. They are linked to the newsroom computer I believe - and are used instead of paper scripts it seems to me. Not sure I'd be as comfortable without paper - though it is much neater on-screen (and you don't have to pay for someone to print them...)

The cost of the chairs is probably miniscule in comparison to the rest of the operation - the kitting out of the gallery, set and the other parts of the newsroom. and cabling/setting up of the whole operation and of course the purchase of the equipment.

Another thing I've noticed - they seem to have recycled (?!?) some of the Compaq keyboards or the computers from the old newsroom where they did Sky News Today as you can see them in the titles.

Mind you, I wouldn't be very comfortable with using a computer only either.

What happens if the autocue stops working, and when you try and look at the stuff on your laptop, the laptop doesn't do what it's supposed to? Are you supposed to stand there like a lemon on screen until you get a prompt, or try and ad lib badly?

For me, the whole business of doing away with the paper scripts makes the whole thing a little less 'newsy'. Perhaps it's just me? Confused

Also, Bail's videos and pictures seem to have fallen over due to the amount of people downloading and viewing them. .Here's some videos I've recorded over the past few days all handily put on one page.

Maybe after the headlines are read the white flash would erm...flash but then a transparent SKY NEWS logo would be seen and then it would show the colours ?

I have to say i love the walk over bit.....it gives the opening a dramatic opening.

Is it just me or are they framing Jeremy Thompson too close to the cente of the screen?

I wish they would get the eyes on the upper-third - it just doesn't look right as it is.

Other than that - stunning. Looks really good.

Arrow I also wasn't keen on the presenters talking to eachother about the stories - I don't want to hear what they think of the headlines, I just want them to tell me the facts. It seemed very forced.

Yup. I do really like it - even the titles, but I do think it'll need to settle down a bit (which it inevitably will). I agree with the three presenter thing. I don't like listening in to other people chat about the news. They're the presenters - they should look at the camera and tell me about it, rather than the false "That's right Steve.". "Of course, Ginny." etc.

Plus it looks like they're standing at a table in a bar.

As the viewer, I don't want to feel like an interruption to them. I do like desks, so I'll be sticking with Live at Five and late evening bulletins. Similarly, it could get very confusing with a big breaking story as you (quite rightly) need a strong and dominant anchor. With three, I get the impression they'll all be trying to talk over each other, and when they do speak they often repeat what the other person has just said. I know it's only the first day and it's right to experiment - I hope they get it right.

Looks like whoever designed the titles agrees with you, given the focus on paper being passed around. Wink
