Isn't it in the subtitles though? I can understand it for sport, weather and business presenters, but for the main presenters just after their names have been said?

Oh yeah, and about the name straps, I have no problem with them, I know the Big Voice does introduce them in the TOTH sequence, but some people, especially in offices may have the TV on mute, and then there are deaf people.
But they should again make them translucent and a bit smaller.

It is annoying, but then it isn't really taking up any more screen space than the pre-relaunch logo. Then they still had the ticker and had the logo in the top corner. Maybe they should make it translucent.
That guy from FouFourTwo magazine, Louis something is definitely eye-candy, they should hire him as a sports presenter.

Perhaps. But I'm not aware of anyone complaing when CNN do it, or when Sky News used to do it or the BBC. I think with all of Sky's other annoying graphic defficiencies at the moment, we could let this go. I stick to my point that if they are gonna do it, then make the straps translucent, maybe grey and smaller.
Cor' I wish I could get my hands on Sky's graphical package, I'd to do some tweaks and improvements with it.

Seriously, guys, it is on the screen for about 3 seconds. It is a dark and inoffensive colour, animates nicely on and off... what is the problem?
It is more often than not used after Sky return from a break - i.e. when the presenters are not introduced by a booming voice. Given the average viewer sticks around for 8 minutes these days, it's a perfectly logical thing to do.
Re: Sky.com promotion on the screen. My TV has broken, so i've not seen it other than in these captures, but that does look slightly annoying. Don't get why they don't just get rid of the ticker and use it as a sort of promotion bar - so ''Blair live now on Active'' or ''News Conference due in X minutes''. Much more useful than a bloody endless stream of headlines scrolling around.
Seems as though they are realising that their website is very important though. There has to be a correlation b/w those using news websites regularly and those using 24 hour news channels. There are also a lot more people using Sky News online than watching Sky News on tv... so the website really counts. There's no doubt that that side of things has improved since the relaunch, but when it comes to it, Sky's website is pretty poor by comparison to most news organisations. They really need to sort that out fast.

Where have all the wide shots gone from Sky News ?
The other night I was watching Live at Five at the gym and and the shot on Jeremy Thompson was so tight his ears were practically touching each side of the 4:3 TV hanging in the cardio theatre !
Also noticed that at the top of the hour the opening shots seem to be from right in front of the desk...?
I would have thought that with Fox rebroadcasting Sky News quite extensively over the last few days they would have been keen to show off their multi million pound studio to the yanks by throwing in a few wide shots !

so i'm not the only one who works out to a bit of JT then?
they should use that wide shot where it zooms in reallly quickly again. at the last second it swooshes in towards the desk - that was my fave.
and if the website is that important, and they are going to be plugging it as much as they are, then they need to overhaul it. atm it's horrible!

I havent got anything against tickers if they are used properly.
I came out of a meeting on the day the terrorist plot news broke and walked through reception, and took a look at News 24 on the plasma. They were interviewing a terrorism "expert", but my eyes immediately dropped to the ticker which was scrolling all of the main details of the plot, arrests, BAA airport updates etc.
I think the ticker is actually aimed at those who may have only just tuned in, or those who can *see* the screen but who cant necessarily *hear* the audio - ie plasmas hanging in Wetherspoons/coffe shop windows etc.
