Looks like another pretty impressive line up of guests too -- have to say, despite his dire presenting skills, although pretty solid interviewing ability, he really does have a good contact book.

Saw the map thing earlier. Looks bloody awful, like something from 1993.

Rubin is informative. I enjoyed watching him, Keith Graves and Chris Roberts having a real good deate on Friday.

Yeah, I think Sky's coverage has been superior, they are certainly trying to reclaim the News Channel of the Year award. Interesting to see Anna Jones and then Mark Longhurst on weekend Sunrise.

Nice shot of the gallery at the end of Martin's interactive programme last night. If there's a camera in there why can't we see more of it.....

During the midday TOTH sequence there was a zoom in on a middle east map during the 'This is Sky News Today with Martin Stanford in Haifa'. Looked very effective!

I'm glad one of our 24 hour news broadcasters is making an effort!

All this 'well it's only if you like style over substance' is absolute cr**. This is TELEVISION after all. Sky's coverage has been exemplary.

Curious. It seems we're all watching different chanels, or ignoring the good bits of one, in favour of the other. Both N24 and Sky are doing exceptionally well with the visuals/graphics so far IMO, but N24 have been using Sattelite data maps with zooms into all the major flashpoint of the conflict, since Monday. They're also mapping (sorry) these onto 3D releif data and doing fly overs. So far I haven't seen anything anywhere near this impressive on Sky. If it is style you want, methinks you're watching the wrong graphics output. Laughing

It's not just graphics output that falls into the 'style' category, I just used those graphics as an example. Style includes graphics, presenters, scripts, where the presenters are, sound etc.

And?...naturally you are right about what constitutes stye. However as you say, this was the example you chose, and in that example Sky was beaten by the opposition. Don't wanna get petty, but, QED and all that Wink

Sky News Today has been presented from the main desk since this Middle East Crisis started. I hope they will retutn to the old presenting style.

I find it very sad that with 7 presentation points they use the desk. But maybe as ginnyfan says, it is just for the story being as it is and with having other correspondents in Beirut.
At the start of the relaunch the opening was at the newswall pod, then it moved to the elbow which i thought was because they wanted the old type of scene back from before the relaunch, with the newswall and computers behind. Now we have the desk shot, and even on the openings the camera shot just goes up a bit or backwards, before they were much exciting. Hope they go back to the old style soon!

Well, that's what the desk is there for.

Personally I find it very sad that with a nice big flashy desk, they feel the need to perch at nonky-looking perspex lecterns.

But its not like they use the desk to its full advantage really? They have this screen infront of it, that is hardly ever used. They can spin the desk around the whole way, yet they hardly ever do. And with that horrid blue background they use on the newswall, its not like the surroundings are nice!

Some ground breaking news on the presentation front, it seems they have started using capital letters for the location graphics. I was tempted to start a new thread about it, this one isn't specific enough.
