Wow - a rocket has just landed and exploded literally what seemed like yards from Jeremy Thompson's position. He was live on air and dived for cover.

christ the action's hotting up in Haifa - there's sirens blaring and explosions going off. JT dived to take some cover as well, that first loud boom made me crap my pants, never mind Jeremy being out there lol.

this is all very exciting tbh!

Jeremy's lives from Haifa have been really excellent. They have absolutely conveyed the seriousness of the situation. He handled that live (where the rocket landed what seemed like a matter of feet from him!) extremely well, but what else would we expect?!

Such a shame News 24 doesn't seem to be able to muster anything of this quality!

It's been quite a busy lunchtime with lots of breaking news, and Sky have shown what they do best. They have covered all aspects of breaking news seemlessly, even going between lots of different stories. The anchoring between JT in Haifa, and Kay in London has been quite excellent with JT taking charge of the developing Middle Eastern situation and Kay addressing the breaking domestic news.

In the meantime over on News 24...they hand over to the one o'clock news! Laughing

First proper time I watched Sky News today, and thought it was great, I think I will swap ITV LN for Sky News now!

One thing I can't understand - that break sting with that horrible blue line background, why not the globe?

hopefully they do bring back some of the globe theming i agree.

lol i flicked to news 24 for a sec just after that explosion and the sirens, and they were running a weather report and then an advert.

This bird that's on tonight and was on last night... is she the Irish girl who was on last week or someone else new? No namecheck, and she sounds like she smokes 60 a day.

Have to say, I think Sky are wiping the floor with the BBC today.

They've been quicker with news, more consise, and had better images. The breaking news strap hasn't been to excess because, quite simply, there has been a lot of breaking news. I do think ''Middle East Latest'', which is what they've been using on and off through the past few days, would be more appropriate, but whilst the situation is moving so quickly I don't begrude them for keeping it up. The BBC have been pretty patchy with their coverage; it has mostly been interminable two ways with nothing new in them. And they've been replaying this god awful ''12 year old stranded in Beirut, but we've found his mummy and daddy!'' interview for hours now... and the BBC were criticising Sky a few years ago for tabloid journalism?

I've seen Sky taking breaks for other news fairly infrequently, and most concentrating on the middle east, but I turned over to News 24 at one point whilst Sky were covering yet another missile strike and found the Beeb running a report about an olive grower in Devon or somewhere. Why?

Jeremy Thompson in Haifa has been good, although personally don't think he particularly adds a huge amount to the situation just doing balcony journalism, but Emma Hurd, Tim Marshall, and Jayne Secker in particular have all been excellent. Was also thinking that it is a shame that Hurd's going off to Africa.

nb - he was on N24 again tonight - he's currently on HMS Gloucester heading for Cyprus.

standby .. for him arriving in Cyprus then another appearance when he's back in the UK!
