I don't like it when they have the same footage in triplicate on the newswall.

Hate the animation wipe effect on the straps, it's incredibly irritating. I think the Sky News DOG and clock should be top left. I still don't understand Sky's insistence on 14L12 commercials on 16F16 channels.

Apparently it is so that they only have to cache one copy of the commercial. If they showed 16F16 ads on their 16:9 channels they'd either have to store two copies (requiring more storage and more time to load) or they'd have to put ARCs into all the 4:3 channel transmission areas. At the moment they aren't prepared to do either, hence adverts and promos are 4:3 on all Sky 16:9 channels.

I notice, on Freeview, that the switching between 4:3 and 16:9 is far from slick.

In the scheme of things ARCs are hardly expensive bits of kit... in fact I noticed in work yesterday about 20 of them which are now surplus to requirements as most stuff now originates in 16F16.

I love the new look, but disappointed about the ratios involved on a 4:3 TV. I am at Uni, so watching on a 15" TV. On all the other channels I watch the widescreen picture by pressing the 'WIDE' button on my remote. This works nicely on all the other channels of course, but on Sky News I have to watch in Letterbox mode for the whole picture to be in. If i watch in 4:3 then I still get 'ews' and 'om' on in the far left hand corner. In 16:9 (with a 1cm black bar on the top and bottom of the screen) I just get more such as 'sky.com' and 'Active' (with no red button). Its stupid for me to watch in Letterbox mode, because I have a 2.5 cm bar along the top and bottom.

What is the point of the 'Active/sky.com/news/news@sky.com'?? I thought they wouldn't feature in the main ticker, but they are still there. At some points, this information is displayed twice onscreen at once - plus the contanst presenter lead prompts too!

Is there a chance this will change?

Just worth pointing out, if someone hasn't already, that the new website doesn't work at all with Safari on Mac. Ironic, considering a screenshot of it was posted here the other day in Safari!

Bloody irritating.

doesn't work properly in firefox either.

Works fine for me (Firefox 1.0.7)

well it's a bit messy in 1.5 - not massive problems just graphics overlaying each other.

is skynews.com redirecting to 127.0.0.1 or something? I'm getting my own internal server from it and anonymouse is redirecting to itself

Sky News don't even own that domain. sky.com/news is the advertised address.

skynews.com doesn't exist.

It's either www.skynews.co.uk or sky.com/news

cat, I believe the two reporters seen in Lozells this morning were Darren Little and Lisa Dowd of ITV Central News fame, they both joined Sky News last month to boost the Midlands bureau.

I'm really impressed so far.

The studio looks gorgeous - great to have a soft area again, and the different presenting positions really add a bit of variety.

The graphics are great in general and, while I'm still undecided about the new straps, they're still a vast improvement on the old ones. The only thing I'd say is, having seen the nice boxy graphics on screen, the straps they scrapped might looked quite nice after all.

Fantastic to see the return of branded programming - and I love the 3-presenter format on Sky News Today. Maybe a bit of a shame that each programme doesn't have a more distinctive logo, but now I'm splitting hairs...

Basically, I think it's great!

At first glance the whole set-up looks very impressive - the titles make an interesting change, the studio looks massive and very "glossy", and the new music is very nice. However...

Arrow I feel that the desk area is actually TOO big, and too busy. The presenters seem to disappear in some shots, particularly when there is a detailed image on the newswall.

Arrow The newswall in fact actually seems shorter than before, because its now so wide! I saw one interview with Adam Boulton this morning, conducted from the podium area (not the one next to the newswall, but next to the desk itself), and you could hardly make Adam out because he seemed so far away! The "window" on the newswall also seemed far too small. But I imagine they will perfect the art of using their new newswall in due course.

Arrow The "fins" in the newsroom which change colour look good when they are blue, but I've just seem them yellow on Lunchtime Live, and they make the studio look more like that of a Saturday morning kids' show than a news channel.

Arrow There is too much walking around the studio just for the sake of it - watching Eamon waddle to the desk this morning was pointless, as was Kay Burley making her way to the podium area at the start of Lunchtime Live. It looks messy.

Arrow I also wasn't keen on the presenters talking to eachother about the stories - I don't want to hear what they think of the headlines, I just want them to tell me the facts. It seemed very forced.

Arrow The graphics are alright when the are static, but the way they animate is irritating. I'm not at all keen on all the red bars flying around the place. It would be better if the astons popped up from above the ticker.

Arrow I agree that the TOTH drags on for too long. You just want them to get on with it!

On the plus side, I like the different views of the studio you get through the day. It gives each programme a different feel, and seeing Lunchtime Live at the moment, it's almost a breath of fresh air not seeing the newswall in the background for once!

Well, it's been a bit of a wash out for me - quite literally! The rain has washed out my digital signal and I can't even get the Sky channels, which normally hold out quite well but on the one day I really want Sky News, it's gone!

From what I've seen it looks quite good, and the graphics are a huge improvement, though the only thing I'd suggest changing is the name astons so the "headline" is the smaller aston, then the big aston is used for the name/description.
