Well, the scenes behind the 6 O'Clock News are all fake, and previously when they used to have the BBC newsroom, it was a loop, so sometimes you would see the same blokes walking about in the background and talking? I don't think Joe Public will notice.
Like the new set and titles, and music - the music is a masterpiece- and the newswall now looks very ITV-newsesque because of its curvature. Also, the new refit must have cost quite a bit, nearly every screen is an LCD and each computer has 3 screens now - and also those chairs; the Herman Miller 'Aeron' ones, around £500 or so apiece . And what's with all the presenters having a tablet PC - it just looks a bit odd when all of them stand together with them placed upon the high table at the newswall.
SkyNews.com also looks alot more slick, I think it was crying out for a makeover, and the grey in its previous incarnation made it look quite drab. Don't think it was a big task though as they use a content management system and it could be easy to change the "skin" of it. But one thing I find - the text is UNREADABLE. It's so tiny, and they've gone for the extreme resizeable text that goes absolutely titchy if you use anything below "medium" in IE (
). I think I'll drop them a line about it, but I doubt they'll listen.
And what's with all the 4:3 adverts on this now widescreen channel? When I recorded it earlier at 6am to watch later as I am usually not around that time during a vacation, I was confused as to whether it HAD actually gone 16:9. The transition from 4:3 to 16:9 at each ad break is a bit of an odd one IMO, it just doesn't look right.

Overall, very impressed. On screen furniture is very clear, clean and crisp; slightly less brash than it was, but retaining lots of energy. Seems to make full use of the technology.
like (but don't love) the studio, great space and used well, but to be honest, looks a lot cheeper in the detail than I thought it would.
My only problem is the titlles. Very glossy and crisp, but very, very American.
And how quickly will they date? Same ten people over and over again, god knows how many times a day. If you're going to do a studio based top shot, why not just do it live?

Very impressive - certainly setting the industry standard, I imagine one of the terms of reference for the designers was to attempt to make News24 look outdated, which it will seem in a few weeks. Very brave, has succeeded .Well done to all at SKY

Well I managed to wake up at 6am and i'm very impressed.
100x better than the old look. The titles, graphics, content and newswall are fantastic. They need to make the Live DOG bigger though.
Another minor point, they still need to update the Sky News Alerts software.

Why? Can't you read it? Are you so shallow that you'll only watch if they have a huge LIVE graphic in the corner? I don't see anything wrong with having it subtle as it is.

Well they could at least make the location a bit larger. Hard to read.

bail, antz - i was just about to post the same thing. i downloaded the 'new' version (as bail linked to above) but it has the same ("old") graphics/logos on it - at least it does during the setup stages. haven't had any breaking news items thru yet so maybe it will change automatically.
