Nope, they just relayed the information a little later.

On the plus side, at least Ginny's been quiet for about 5 minutes.

I was just a vision-mixer doing a job ...
The technical staff are treated like robots, not human beings.
Some of the gallery producers are next to useless. Others just plain rude.
The old gallery was cramped, dirty and poorly air conditioned.
Some of the gallery directors are too bored or incapable to direct clearly.
Some of the gallery directors think they're directing an epic.

I've never worked at sky fernando, but I have been lucky, or not so lucky enough, to have been able to go and visit sky news on a number of occassions. On the times when I've been in he gallery it would appear that people got the job through their egos alone. I remember when I first went there with my dad, an electrician, at the age of around six, I sat in the gallery for a while and some man, I assume the director, told another person 'shut up and get on with it, you f****** c***'. Now I can appreciate the pressure of the job, but in front of a six year old?

I doubt you guys ever will, but why don't you move away from the interest of who's appearing on which block of airtime, who's standing in for who, etc ..
One or two presenters may have negotiated consistency / make themselves unavailable but it is a rolling operation where people are obviously shuffled and slotted into a rota.

I wouldn't imagine Sky have much if any editorial interest in why and when person A appears with person B, so why do you ??

I can understand why this forum gives a platform for discussing television presentation, but surely speculating and commenting on rota patterns is just banale and pointless ?

Why wont you accept that people have in interest in these things? Go back to Digital Spy and stay there. We know you ridicule TV Forum on that site, but when you post here, you are normally moaning about other members. Just don't post here if you don't like it.

Sky should be ashamed of their coverage. Presenting was ok... however, N24 got pictures with in 30mins-1hr of the event breaking, and even got a live camera and reporter on the scene shorly after. At this point, Sky were only just getting pictures in, which were all poorly edited, recorded straight off a computer screen, with someone going back to the email, and opening the picture attatchemnts.

Overall... sky was poor. News24 however, were much better, clearer, faster , and didnt break false news.. such as "One person killed" which was the case at one point on Sky.

SN2005,

Well, that kind of language or attitude wasn't so common in my experience, but that level of frustration and ego is indeed common. It's a stress factory.

fusionlad,

I don't ridicule particular members. I also don't post rude or kneejerk offensive comments unlike some. The post(s) you are probably referring to were no different in content to what I have already said here.
My interest in you guys is to understand what possibly drives the comments that you post. I am interested in that, which obviously annoys many of the more blinkered and obsessive posters here.

I don't need to go to 'digitalspy' or anywhere specifically. Most of these forums are banale in quality and I visit out of incredulity more than anything else.

If I feel a minor urge to enquire and challenge you, well, get over it.
You might then realise there are more interesting aspects to broadcasting than who is filling in between 2 and 5, or what colour the bug is.

Well chaps, to throw a spanner in the works entirely, I actually thought that Ginny Buckley was good yesterday and gave a credible performance! I, surely, cannot be alone in that observation??

Still a little bit bemused by the presentation inconsistency though. SNT AM only had two presenters on Monday - yesterday it was back to three again.

SNT PM has only had two for this week so far.

Regardless of who the people are (and steering clear of the great rota debate for once), why the heck can't they be consistent and have always three presenters, even if the thrid one is the cleaner or the doorman!!! Sky have a huge pool of presenting resources. Surely all these instances where there are only two anchors are not ALL last minute emergencies where someone calls sick at the last moment???? And even if so, don't they have a standby anchor like they do over at CNNI?

Anyone?

Yes, the variable number of presenters is unusual, for any TV programme.
I assume they simply aren't able to consistently maintain the original and ongoing plan, when people take leave.
You might have thought they would have foreseen that ...

Yes, Fernando, one would have assumed that they were capable of some degree of planning, just as every other tv news organisation in the world seems to manage it.

This discussion may seem trivial to some, but I am really quite irritated by the inconsistency. Once or twice is perhaps excusable. But, it's happening almost 50% of the time now!

BBC World, I wasn't being sarcastic as I feel you thought ... I'm agreeing with you.

No sarcasm was detected, Fernando. I knew you were agreeing with me. Sorry for any language which gave different signals. Wasn't intended. Thanks.

no probs.
I assume what is happening is that the official 'plan' hasn't changed, but when the executive pruducers get told they can't have 3 presenters they just shrug and say 'well, I'm not bothered; 2 is better anyway."

I think we just have to give Ginny Buckley some more time to settle into her role, and she will be ace, just like many others who had shaky starts and who have now become excellent presenters.

Think...........

Max Foster - who left BBC Breakfast to join CNN. He was woeful at CNN in the beginning. Now he's a start act and a very credible presenter.

David Eades - who left BBC reporting roles to take on the presenter role at BBC World. In the beginning, he too was quite bad, but now handles his slot on BBC World with a quite excellent combination of being laid back, yet probing.

Dharshini David - she was incredibly nervous when she started out on BBC Business News. Now, she is totally at home behind that desk, and a pleasure to watch.

Emma Crosby at Sky - Emma was also quite shaky and nervous in the beginning, and look at her now. Top rate and excellent and can handle any news situation extremely well. Probably one of the best things about the Channel at present.

Adrian Finighan - I remember the days (early days) at BBC World, when he used to drop things midway thorugh a piece to camera, and have to clamber down behind the desk to find it. Look at him now - cool as ice.

Eamonn Holmes - when he left GMTV to join Sky News as a serious anchor of rolling news, he was nothing more than a second rate game show presenter and a bit of a bufoon. Several months later.........well, isn't the National Lottery JetSet a real joy to watch now!!!

Hang in there Buckley - you're gonna be great!!
