http://www.stevedixon.biz/mediacentre/cam13fromdesk.jpg Im just wondering about the pod area...they have the circular desk which is always used but then there is the area in front.
It baffles me becouse I keep thinking someday stools will come along and they will sit there with the tablet PC's in the wee gaps there,
Is there any reason for it or is it just for decorative reasons?
[huh? i thought he was talking about the decision to broadcast the ongoing chaos
Yes, Luke, I was.
I stand by my views as an objective observer away from the hype of tv news.
yes, it's not just Sky of course, but this is a Sky News thread, so ...
I like Sky's little window in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (though not right in the corner, reasonably near the centre) showing live coverage of Paris during the Sky Report.
Just a shame it's not a little higher as it's clashing with some of the straps.
They've now added the Active strap telling us to press red for Paris.
Eh? It looked dreadful! A small box floating off-centre, attached to nothing. It was too small to show any detail of what was happening there, and most of the time there wasn't an aston explaining what the hell it was doing there, and that you oculd see more on Active. Oh yes, and it tended to cover the face - the face! - of interviewees framed camera-right. It's not a bad idea to do a screen within a screen, but what were they thinking when they decided to do it that way? Sky, sadly, are losing the plot - and ever more rapidly.
Theyve changed the begining dramaticly of SNT AM since I last saw it last year.
Crashed in from titles
"Hello this is sky news today, our top stories..."
did all the top stories like before
"Also coming up" all three of them in one shot talking
"Thats 3 hours of live news and debate... all here on SNT" (as before)
But wasnt that phrase used at the begining, and there were lots of nice camera angles used, they milked it a bit, made it more dramatic, now its just ....

I thought it was fine. It was important news, but nothing major was changing so they decided to go with their Sky Report, while keeping it in the viewer's attention that something was happening in Paris. It didn't prevent me from understanding what was going on with the Sky Report, I don't need to see people's faces! Obviously it's not suitable to be used all the time, but the fact it was in your face (literally sometimes!) flagged that something major was happening.
To me, having an indication that you're across a story - even though you're not concentrating on it - is crucially important when flicking through news channels (and why I've always criticised News 24 for flashing up Breaking News banners for a few seconds and then 'having to remove it' because they're moving on to another story).
If I hear a story broke online or on radio, I'll turn on the TV and if one news channel has no evidence that they even know about the story (even though they may have been talking about it before I turned on) I will turn to one that does.

On the subject of Sky, is anyone on here any good at maths? I've always been dreadful at it. Help me - what is three into two?
If nobody here can provide an answer, I understand Sky News will provide us with an answer fairly soon.
Ah, does this mean they're losing the three presenter line-ups and going to two. So who will go from each of the programmes?

Anna (or second presenter) has always said something like: "3 hours of the biggest breaking stories, live comment and debate, coming right up" just before the 'god' v/o, ever since the relauch IIRC James.
SNT usually do the 'coming up' features before top stories at TOTH, so this is unusual.
Also, Martin usually did the top story at he newswall for AM at relaunch, but there is now some sort of rota, with second and third anchors doing this as well now.
As for PM, until recently all three anchors would stand at the pod for he top story, yet now two of them walk off (just like AM) with (usually) Steve Dixon with the main news.

Oh yeh I know that they said it at the end of the headlines, It was just that they usualy did "coming up" first and then the top stories.

It's always been on a rota - if you look each presenter moves to a different role every day. I also dont understand all this about a main anchor on SNT, which everyone keeps going on about, being the first presenter (the one who does the news updates.) Surely, it'll be the second or third presenter (if there has to be a main presenter!) which is the main one, for AM at least, seeing as they do the two big features of the programme - the Daily Debate & Reality Check!

I know they do now, but at the relauch, I am sure Martin did the top story each day.
As for your other comment, I refer to the lead anchor as the presenter covering the top story, regardless of the other presenters jobs.

No, there has always been a rota.
But more about this two headed system, for both AM or PM? Who is dropped? is this even happenning or is it just speculation.
I think they may drop Ginny back to the weekends....(fingers crossed)

I suspect that she will just get quietly dropped at the end of her contract
