blimey lol that does look a bit bad.

and just to echo the nods of approval to sky over these last few weeks. i myself have noticed that things seem to be clicking a bit now.

just niggly things are holding them back. like the tedious sight of three presenters standing round the table. longhurst, ginny, and stevie dexon are all good and all have that kind of playful edge to them, so i can see why perhaps they are wanted to be together. but why not the three of them at the news desk?? it looks far better and is slicker and more stylish. then perhaps branch out later into the hour. and when they announce the top stories, and in turn each one looks at the camera face on in that cheesy way close up to give a story each, blimey...

also the active strap - while it is retreating into the shadows a bit more, it's still too prominent. especially when its used so poorly. it flashes up saying red for top stories at the TOTH!! the top stories are being read out!! and sky news is really pleasant (beautiful even) to look at. the studio, the colours, the graphics, the presenters (lol), and by sticking that great big banner in the way it just looks awful then. spoils it. was in the pub a few nights ago and the 16.9 lcd had sky news on but the red banner just looked terrible.

lol only meant to type a few lines, but sky need to realise that they were and still are vulnerable after the relaunch, and they need to work three times as hard to make up for lost ground. and even little things like these they cant afford to let let them down.

I love it Damo. Thanks for posting the link.

I love the way that you have just called Julie Etchingham "Julie", in a way that kinda suggests that she needs no further introduction!!

When will the BBCW page be activated?

Cheers,

I'm afraid I still find the James Rubin show totally unwatchable.

Not only do I feel distinctly uncomfortable watching someone so patently petrified and out of their depth (in TV terms), I also find the presentation and content quite at odds with a continuous news channel. His delivery is not idiosyncratic, or distinctive, it is just bad...

He may be an expert on many subjects, but there isn't much point if he can't even begin to engage an audience (and the audience figures confirm he isn't engaging an audience... I don't know anyone who watches - apart from people who aren't very happy in their current job - but use it as a touchstone of an "at least I'm not working on that" nature...

The World (aka BBC Four News) manage quite a bit better on BBC World/BBC Four - and Channel Four News / Newsnight prove that you can do serious global news, and move away from the standard news agenda and diaries, without producing TV that makes you want to listen to the radio...

I'm amazed it is still on the air.

I've been trying to get into it myself, but still can't manage.
I did wonder recently if Rubin could perhaps take on some sort of John Simpson role - perhaps have a say in the agenda, and cherrypick the big stories for himself, but let someone else present the show?

I think it's exagerating (sp?) to say James Rubin is unwatchable, although he obviously is not suited to a presenting role.

However he doesn't make me want to switch off if my motive for tuning in is to catch up on some innernashnul noos.

A tad libelous, is it not................................? Wink

I find him (Martin Popplewell) ok actually and enjoy his regular spoonerisms. His performance also varies depending on which co-presenter he is paired with, I have also noticed. He appears to be at ease with some, but kinda petrified of others........
