Rachel Amatt just called James Rubin "Jamie" Very Happy

Also why does "Jamie" still use american pronunciations (Anteye(Anti)) on a british based news channel?

Because he's American? Surely it would sound unnatural to anyone if they were to start making foreign pronounciations if you travelled elsewhere?

Quite a lot of the other presenters refer to James as Jamie.

I've heard quite a few people call Juliette Foster "Jules" over the years. It's no big deal.

I think it's great when they call each other by those nick names.
One thing I don't like about Sky is their mixing of sport presenters with other main presenters. Why is Steve Gaisford doing sport tonight when we are used to watch him on channels main news programmes?

It's not uncommon for rolling news channels to use their Sports or Business Presenters as fill-ins as duty newscasters from time to time. In the case of Steve Gaisford, it is probably more significant because he has almost exclusively been a news presenter for the last six months, as opposed to sports. In fact, during The Saturday Show, he actually elbowed his way (overly so) into Georgie Bingham an guests sports slot, and appeared to forget that HE wasnt the Sports presenter!! He got so excited and carried away with the cricket, that he then continued to chat to the guest about all sport, leaving Georgie almost saying nothing for ten minutes. I think she just left him to it. LOL.

Back to ginnyfan's original comment - other notable occasions when Sports or Biz anchors have filled in as the main news presenter:

Rob Bonnet on Breakfast (BBC)
Adrian Chiles on Breakfast (BBC)
Georgie Bingham on Sky News
Tanya Beckett on Breakfast (BBC)
Manisha Tank on BBC World News
Adrian Finighan on BBC World News (he started out as biz presenter)
Mishal Husein on BBC World News (she was biz too, originally)
Juliette Foster on Sky News
Michael Wilson on Sky News
Todd Benjamin on CNNI

I haven't been off during the week for a while, but I must say impressed with the slickness of the whole thing this morning and afternoon so far. The early Sky News Today seemed to flow nicely.

I guess Kay has abandonded her usual schedule to cover all the breaking news coming out of Gaza and suchlike. All very good, with seemingly endless guests and analysis with great presentation, and smart and slick graphics.

However, I did see some of the afternoon Sky News Today yesterday, and it looked very uncomfortable viewing. Ginna Buckley (sp) looked very uncomfortable, she almost looks too shy to look at the camera. No chemistry between her and Mark. Plus, the whole show looked badly directed and forced.

SNT PM seem to have adopted the AM procedure of one (or two with AM) presenter walking from the newswall over to the desk this week - Steve did this at the 3 and 4pm TOTH.

I know I've mentioned this before somewhere, but why are all of the presenters different each day, some are not even on air, and others haven't been on for ages.

When ever I tune in, it's a bit like tuning into the old ITV News channel in the afternoon when somebody would be there by random.

Is something going on, have things been regigged, or are people on holiday all at the same time, or have they all been struck down by a bug?

I remember Mary Rhodes last year who is a sports presenter on the BBC done the news for 10 minutes or so on BBC World ... this was during breaking news coverage, so obviously one presenter had to go, and the other hadn't arrived.

I hate the american accent all together... also was looking on The TV Room and saw a cap of Jams Rubin on BBC News being interviewed as the Advise to the Kerry Campaign.

I think Steve Gaisford is the best thing about SKY these days. He should be the main anchor on Sunrise instead of the waste of space that is Eamon.

Have to disagree. Where I may not be Eamons biggest fan, I do like him on Sunrise and prefere to watch it wtih Eamonn instead of a sub.
Steve i feel is good in mid-afternoon
