i think it just sums up the current 24hr TV news environment - 'making' the news as well as reporting it...

Does Ruth Kelly's statement really warrant having Martin Stanford anchoring from College Green?

The way that this-so called "row" has been ratcheted up by the TV and press really irritates me. Yesterday Sky were running a package with absurd close-up slow-motion footage of Ruth Kelly, talking about how she'd never been under such pressure before. Yes, but pressure from who? The Sky crew doorstepping her!

We've got Kay Burley on College Green now..

Mark Longhurst also anchored Sky News Today Part 2 from Westminster. Good to see him anchoring live on location, when he was teamed up with Kay he was always left in the studio when she went out and about. Also, the whole programme seemed much better with just 2 presenters, maybe they should have one of the presenters just doing the headlines and emails or something, and rotate this, to make everything seem less cluttered. 3 round that little round desk looks ridiculous.

I am not a great fan of the three presenter system. I wonder if this was done so that the senior presenters could get slots all to themselves?

Well, there is nothing the media like more than a bit of paeodophillia. That's why the slammed the Brass Eye special a few years ago - because it was spot on!

My whole thought on the issue is laying the blame at the top is far too easy. What about all the Headteachers and Local Education Officials who ultimately can stop people on the sex offenders register working in school by rejecting them immediately, rather than passing on their files to the Department of Education then blaming them when it's exposed!

I'd rather watch this than any more of the Ruth Kelly guff...

Quite interesting, really...

Oh dear. Someone new is doing this hour (not the usual overnight presenter who was on at 12), so it could be a sort of audition hour.

Totally fluffed the bit before the weather, now looking terrified in front of the camera.

Yes, he's performed fantastically well. But then again, Martin Stanford always does. One of the finest presenters in UK broadcast news IMHO. Hours of off-the-cuff thinking, and hardly an 'erm' or an 'um' in sight, and much less inane questionning than Tim Willcox on News 24. I can't help thinking that the BBC poached the wrong one in Simon McCoy.

Martin Stansford is a true asset to Sky News. I love how you can tell that he genuinely loves his job, he is fantastic to watch.
