What is wrong with Sky? Have they got no hearts?
Fair play to Yvette Cooper for holding it together after hearing the breaking news that former Cabinet Secretary Jeremy Heywood had passed away. #Ridge #SkyNews pic.twitter.com/223zgJSaVy

I think this was a slightly difficult situation, where you have a breaking news story which has an emotional impact on the interviewee. Whilst it may have come across as slightly heartless, it is a difficult situation to deal with, and I doubt that there was any intent on causing upset for Yvette Cooper.
I am unsure whether this is due to timing, or a conscious decision by the team, but the fact that the interview came to an end and they went to a break when the emotional impact became clear shows that the team doesn't want to cause unnecessary distress.

I'd say Sky are one of the best actually for the news at the weekends. Bar the odd Pledge hour (and it's only done twice or so over a weekend) there's normally at least 30 minutes of news each hour if not a full hour of news.
Whereas BBC seems to have recorded programs every hour and if last weekend is any indication basically shuts down for UK news for certain hours even when there's a big breaking news story.
And don't get me started on CNNI - once it reaches 1pm the channel seems to show everything but an international news bulletin. On Sundays in particular, there's only one international bulletin between 1pm and 10pm UK time. I mean who needs international news when you can have an hour-long show about US media instead? Sky on weekends is bliss by comparison.
There's too little news coverage at a weekend as it is, every time I go to flick on Sky News at the weekend in the evening they seem to be showing anything but news

Sorry for the digression in a Sky News topic, but no Connect The World today, so nothing other than headlines from CNNI between the 12pmUK CNN Newsroom and 10pmUK CNN Today. (I'm ignoring CNN/US simulcasts). Saturdays are better in this time period though, as there are CNN Newsroom bulletins at 3/4/6/7pmUK. From an EMEA perspective, CNNI Saturday daytimes are OK IMO. The big issue is the long gap until the next CNN(I) Newsroom at 5amUK Sunday

Sky had a live interview with Arron Banks at around lunchtime today along with a news review with 2 guests shortly after, so they’re not totally devoid of news at the weekend. In fact, as has been mentioned, it’s your best chance of a straight news bulletin at the moment on Sky News.

I’m confused as to why Sportsline is still a thing to be honest. It’s also on twice on Saturday 7:30pm/9:30pm and Saturday Sport at 11:30am too. Anyone that interested in Sport will just watch Sky Sports News instead, I’ve got friends who love sport and tune in SSN fairly frequently but I doubt many are even aware or interested in Sportsline on Sky News. It’s just another filler but it’s pointless filler when there’s a whole channel doing sport news and updates.
It is a news channel but I don’t mind the documentaries and The Pledge as they’re offer something different but they do need to sort out when these programmes are on, last weekend Emma Crosby ended the hour by telling viewers what was ahead at the ‘Top of the Hour’ (Leicester Crash) but instead it went straight to a prerecorded programme. I do think a quick TOH and headlines before they going into the pre recorded programmes would be good (this sometimes happens overnight) and it does help follow a little better with presenters introducing these programmes.
My issue is with the evening coverage
7.30pm - 8.00pm Sportline
8.00pm - 9.00pm The Pledge
9.30pm - 10.00pm Sophie Ridge
There's also often a filler on at 7.00pm.
It can easily be sorted by moving the Pledge out.

Not everyone has access to Sky Sports News so presumably Sportsline is used as a way to show Freeview viewers what sky sports are showing.

Indeed, Sportsline and the sports updates are as much a promotional vehicle for Sky Sports on Freeview and Freesat as the trailers are.
The same can't be said for The Pledge.

Sky have just said US midterms coverage starts tonight at midnight? Is this a special extra programme or have they just promoted it on the wrong date (Midterms on are Tuesday, so coverage would be Tuesday night / Wednesday morning).
