LBC News 1152 used to have their presenters say at the top of the hour:
"Non-stop news for London continues after the latest news with [NEWSREADER]"
A daft script line on several levels.
'
The
news hour' is a slightly odd title for a programme on a 24-hour news channel. What's on for the other 23?

This seems quite clear to me. The non-stop news is on after the news that does stop. The non-stop news presumably continues while the does-stop news is on the air, but isn't broadcast and is just faded out. Though I imagine presenting the non-stop news can be severely damaging to your health thanks to having no sleep whatsoever, it does give you a lot of live broadcasting experience.

Come 2005 and various similar incarnations for around a decade before, that sequence had run its course to be fair.
Sorry to say nothing will beat 2005 for me. I know some on here thought it was completely over the top, but it was at least distinctive from BBC News. (Set wise it blew N8 out of the water). 2005 was when they were loud and proud.
Speaking of Sky's current TOTH sequence, it is rather stale and uninspiring. Especially when compared to this 16-year-old masterpiece:

The backdrop for the new Newhour is quite nice though.

Sounds like one for The Day Today or Broken News to me.

And it tanked. 2005 was the start of the death of the traditional Sky News format. They tried the appointment to watch format, the overuse of presenters and a set to show off the launch of 16:9.
2018 Sky News is what we've ended up with after the OTT format failed, no more fancy large studio, flashy graphics and the like. A minalamist format is the price paid for being cocksure, which allowed BBC News to overtake with a more traditional format.

Geez when you go back and look at the previous TOTHs and formats and presentation styles, you wouldn't even think its the same channel today. Goodness. I didnt like the 2005 roving cam TOTH but I liked everything else. The idea of using 3 presenters was brilliant. The writing and presentation style was lively and buzzy. Nothing like funeral snooze fest they are presenting today.

Wasn't so much the presentation that caused it to tank, it was more the appointment to view stuff like James Rubin which was ultimately to blame. What would be interesting to see if what would've happened if the 2005 format had launched in 2018, instead of 2005.
We're now going to back an appointment to view style, so the channel's done full circle. Still think Sky News should go for a Franceinfo style look, it would naturally suit the channel but unfortunately their daring days are long gone.

Not exactly. Some of the shows did - James Rubin in particular was horrific - but the channel mainly slipped due to News24’s availability on Freeview and the significant rise in DTT homes during that same period. Sky News’ audience share was already well in decline by the time of the relaunch.
What the management of the channel seem not to grasp is that to tell people the news you must first get them to watch. And stay watching. The blandness of the channel means few do.

One of the unfortunate parts of the Comcast takeover is that it appears Sky will continue to run Sky News the way it thinks it should be editorially, despite the visuals being bland.
Now Euronews where Comcast have a 25% share has vastly improved thanks to their investment, even if the lower thirds are bloody awful, but the fact it's gone from a journalist in a booth to semi-live output and an analytical show from Brussels is a vast improvement, along with a FTA HD feed on Hot Bird.
I think Sky have done some decent stuff, such as their campaigns with Ocean Rescue and their new campaign regarding the leaders debates, the evening Press Preview and when they're able to go into breaking news, they're still pretty good at it. But the minimalist presentation and off target fodder like The Pledge, a poor copy of Fox News's The Five are a turn off, which is a shame as their actual journalism is still up there with the BBC and ITV.

Also see Wright, Steve - The Non-Stop Oldies.
Non-stop - apart from the some links and the jingles and promos..
The Day Today, of course which was the TV version of On The Hour.
Part of that was taken from Armando Iannucchi and Chris Morris's hatred on Capital FM's 'The Way It Is' evening news programme, which was 10 minutes of news, 5 minutes of adverts, and 15 minutes of jingles telling you, that you are listening to The Way It Is...
