Unfortunately the entire operation seems sleepy. Even the presenters, it seems to me, speak in barely audible whisper and the writing its frankly a bit dry at times and the story flows are dry. Formerly they spoke with authority and volume. Now its barely a whisper it seems. Almost every story gets the same boring introduction. "....Blah Blah Blah. Sky's XXXX reports". [Report plays]. Such a boring way intro a story.

As some have already stated the channel is certainly timid now and it seems they are trying to out bore the BBC in its presentation. So much great reporting is wrapped the most boring wrapping. Probably what makes its irritating or possibly grating, is that this current format its vastly different from its birth and past. Its was always the lively, punchier news counterweight to the BBC's button-up dry style. I barely find it watchable frankly. It used to be my absolute favorite.

Not sure why have these endless paper reviews. Never understood their appeal. To me it seems like an excuse to have a roundtable discussion without actually having a roundtable discussion. Dont go full MSNBC or FOXNEWS and bring in commentators, but a few knowledgeable analysts to discuss current topics periodically across the day wouldnt go amiss. I think BFMTV has the right mix and certainly found a format that works and its wildly popular. They certainly cant sustain this current format and commercially make a profit. The new owners will certainly be salivating over making changes once that ring-fencing has been removed.

This is not strictly TV related, but does anybody else think that the Sky News mobile app has been sending lots of unnecessary push notifications over the last few months? Notifications should really be for the most important news, not to tell people that Sophy Ridge is starting at 9am.

I personally turned them off months ago, but I have been seeing more and more people complaining about this on social media. I assume the more notifications they send, the greater the number of "click-throughs" to in-app ads. Though of course, there must be a "crying wolf" effect - and I personally think it damages perception of the brand to flag "programme starting on schedule" with the same prominence as "snap General Election called".

It's the same with the Breaking News ticker too, used as much for promo as it is for headlines nowadays.

After her interview with Frances O'Grady earlier, Kay asked her if she'd join her for a 20-25 minute chat "on the sofa" when she launches the new show. Seems like they'll be properly differing from the half hourly repetition we get at the minute and the suggestion of the sofa might suggest a new set?

I believe that there are some sofas in Sky Central, which ISTR were used for Swipe when that was still going. Perhaps they'll be used?

apparently something on Sky News on the 7th of August attracted 592 complaints "generally accepted standard" according to the latest Ofcom Broadcast Bulletin.

having poked around I presume it has something to do with this:

This is an issue with personality led news bulletins, Kay Burley's questioning is poor, despite the stance of the guest on the two-way.

On the whole, I think Kay is brilliant. She got this wrong though - the Simon Weston comparison was ridiculous.

That is a terrible interview, on of the worst I have heard. She thinks she is being edgy with the questioning but its embarrassing.
