An active shooter in Maryland, so what are Sky News doing? Letting Sarpong and co shout at each other instead.

Why does this not come as a shock to me(?)

Problems with the city studio meant Gamal presented the first half of Ian King live from the glass box

Ian signed off saying you have been watching an error strewn Ian King Live

I would discuss the sports bulletin coming from the glass box, but that fluorescent yellow in the ticker is quite something.

Is the overnight shift coming from a green screen? Something looks different but not sure what!

Geez. SkyNews isnt what it used to be. The spark IMO is gone. Such a shame for a great interesting ground breaking channel that had feeling speed and immediacy and innovation and a point of the difference with out being OTT or "Too New World". Their coverage of breaking used to be fantastic and dynamic. The break news swoosh and red made you look up as it got your attention. Now its all its just literally plain vanilla. Breaking News seems to be presented in a apologetic manner for interrupting their staid boring format. All that white presentation and monotonous repetitive bed theme music is frankly boring. #BRINGBACKTHESWOOSH LOL. Oh well.

The direction they’ve gone in is the right one - they’ve just maybe gone a little further than they needed to. The set used for Sunrise and overnights is really poor, and the use of the glass box after 9pm isn’t too great either (using the screen as a backdrop). Lunchtimes and afternoons are still as good as they’ve always been.

I’d say graphics need a rethink - never been a fan of the current straps etc but even less so since the move from the old studios. Some elements look great however. Top of the hour needs a rethink too.

Would it help if Sunrise was moved back to the Glass box and moving Sky news at ten and press preview into Studio 6?

Personally, I think you both make good points, even if they are somewhat contradictory. I do think that on the whole, the coverage is a lot better than it was a decade or so ago - and certainly, a lot less tabloidy. I also get the sense that Sky News is a fair bit more sure of itself than it was 10 or so years ago - remember when it felt like the graphics and schedule were changed seemingly every other week?

On the other hand, I do think that the presentation, and thus the overall look and feel of the channel, can come across as, dare I say it, somewhat dull. What I would like to see is a sort of happy medium between the two extremes. I do appreciate that it's no longer just the presenters sat at the desk hour after hour, like it was before the glass box - I think that that does add some much-needed variety to proceedings. And Phil, I do agree with you on the top of the hour - I've never been a fan of the current sequence, and I think the music they use is very dreary. I always liked the 2005 music, myself, even if it was a little OTT.

I've said this here before, but I do think Sky could do well to take some inspiration from Franceinfo's approach to liven things up a little. Oh, and bring back the voiceover. Anyway, that's my two pennies' worth - rant over.

The content of the channel is fine these days but I do think the presentation could do with improvement.

The 2002-2005 era is the sort of happy medium I think Sky News should aim for. The channel was all about the news and the presentation was simple but effective and packed a punch and you had slots like Sky News Today which were a bit different presentation wise. These days the TOTH does feel a bit of a non-event and while the presentation does the job it's not overly interesting.

I know some weren't the biggest fans of the glass box but I do wish they'd go back to using the various atrium views a bit. Sure there wasn't huge amounts going on in the background but it just added a bit of variety to how they presented the news during the day whereas now the only views you get from the glass box are either the big screen or that corridor. The view they used to use during Colin and Jayne's shift in particular I thought was quite decent.
Kay's shift is a bit different in terms of its presentation and is all the better for it.

That's one thing SSN is very good at actually - the presentation looks slightly different throughout the day even when they're using things like the newswall.

I don't actually mind most of the programmes - that said probably the weakest one is weekday Sunrise which is a shame as it should be one of the higher profile slots. It just feels rather stale and tired and I just don't find Sarah-Jane Mee and Jonathan Samuels particular watchable as a breakfast pairing - the format at the weekends seems much better and relaxed.
