Why did they revert to that after having that Westminster background, and do they not have access to the live view that the BBC and ITV uses?

Sometimes for aesthetic reasons. Something may be going on in the background or poor weather.

NBC recently covered some of their windows on their West Capitol Hill Studios (same building as where Fox News and ITN - which share NBC space) blocking a beautiful view of the background with LED walls. For one of the large window panes (directly behind the main anchors) it can be removed but the LED wall stays in place most of the time showing show branded graphics or graphic versions of Capitol Hill.

The first 8 minutes of Ian King Live tonight has been a complete nightmare.

At 18:30 it cut to Ian King who clearly didn't know he was on air, and a producer clearly talking, followed by a Sky News Logo, for about 20 seconds, more conversation, cut back to Ian King, Ian starts reading the headlines, no music, hesitates, flips a sheet of paper and starts reading from it (felt like autocue failed) and then the music started. Then we had random graphics firing, video sequences repeating, more chatting in background and stuff being shown that clearly was not supposed to be, more chatter and an emergency break.

I have been abroad a bit recently, but are the problems getting any better? From everything I see things are still very little improved over the last two months - The production quality is still well down on what it was before the change to the new gallery.

Ian King Live having some real problems tonight. Started with Ian not knowing he was on air (you could hear staff directing him in the background), then random cuts from graphics to studio shots (showing guests being seated) and now sound problems.

Just gone to a much earlier than usual break.

EDIT: ^Ah, you beat me to it Wink

Probably could do with someone racking the cameras down a bit too...

I'm still seeing a lot of issues

The TOTH has failed every hour this morning that I saw. I don't know why they don't just put up a static logo until its fixed

The other night they cut back to Nick who was putting some make up on too

Naz started doing the weather this morning and was cut off by a sky news logo and then started again with no weather sponsor sting shown

The other night going into a break on the press preview they showed the outside camera shot for ages before cutting to a break

Graphics randomly appear at the wrong times - sometimes to instantly go off and then come back on again

and continuing sunrise cue card watch yesterday Sarah had normal paper but don't panic today the cards are back in use again Laughing

Edit on Wednesday - Today the sports presenter is using all 3 types of cards. I don't understand why they don't just pick one and stick with it. every time it cut back to her a different version was on show and once it was upside down too Laughing

Technical issues from 1900 on Sky News Tonight, Dermot Monaghan handling it well but doesn't appear best pleased by it!

One report playing without sound for about 30 seconds, another report not able to be played and then they managed to go live to Washington correspondent but the "Live" slide didn't come on as it should at the start of the two-way.

Something like

I think we have a report, as you can see we're have a few technology problems talking about technology, we may have a report coming up, just bear with me, we do not have that report either, as you can see the technology seems to be playing up with us, I'm now going to have to be told, what we bring you next, because we're running out of items to bring you that are ready for us

Was Millbank always on the new gallery from the re-launch or was it switched over after?

The reason I ask is I remember in the weeks after the re-launch, Millbank was always flawless production wise and didn't seem to suffer from the same issues the other studios did. But the last month or so we've seen Millbank also suffer from the same kind of issues that the newer studios are suffering from.

Even two months into the new system, Sky News is still way down on production quality than what it was before and it doesn't seem to be really improving either. How much money was saved and how many jobs were lost in the switch from the old system to the new?

Another failure on Sunrise this morning. The TOTH didn't play instead they cut to a shot of the screen and Sarah was not there. the headline sequence was silently playing before eventually she started talking saying that was quite a shock there and then the music kicked in

Another absolute mess after the 9.30 weather. Went to a Sky News slide for a little while then to Stephen and Gillian who were relaxing as they thought they'd gone to a break. They started talking then the weather sponsor played out and went to a break. Absolute mess.
