No. The lighting on the strips is slightly different though
Is Dermot coming from the Millbank CSO? Backdrop doesn't look real.

So where is Dermot coming from?

Millbank - the same place as he does every other night when fronting Sky News Tonight.

Long-time reader but first time poster here.
Note a huge fan of the 2nd studio sadly - it looks quite small on screen and the VAR they used just didn't look very realistic sadly.
Unlike some I find the glass box studio fine. It looks modern and is particularly good on SROS/NPOS and the new lighting has improved the way it looks in the evenings. It's not perfect but I don't think it's the disaster some make it out to be. I know some have mentioned softer segments are an issue in there but then again for some particularly light segments (IIRC there was one involving the Harlem Globetrotters a while back) they have used the atrium on the floor below previously.
I do think it's a shame that they don't use the views of the rest of the building anymore - some views worked better than others but it's at least something different to the corridor that's currently the backdrop for many glass box programmes.
I will miss the old Sky News studio though. The new desk there really had improved the set (and made you realise how tired the old one was) and it was a rather versatile set - you had the desk for most of the news slots and then the big screen for Kay's slot, the Press Preview and also for many segments involving multiple people. It still looked good on screen as well.
Sky Sports News too seem to have gotten the more eye-catching studio and my guess would be that if there were an election in the near future that they may either use the 2015 'round the constituencies' approach or use Sky Sports News's base rather than the glass box or VR set as the SSN HQ seems more like an election hub.
For all the talk there is about presentation on here (what with it being a TV presentation forum and all), the big thing for the channel for me is still the content, presenters and reporters and schedule and these are all still as ever IMO. You know that most hours you'll get the news delivered by a capable anchor and reported on by strong reporters.

Welcome to TVF!
I think it was a disaster when it launched when there was not a single bit of colour and everything was white, but then they added the red and blue lighting in the background and now they've fixed the lighting and it's fine now, I wouldn't say it's amazing but there's nothing really to moan about.
I reckon any election would probably be primarily in the Green Screen studio - since there has been talk that they have infinite amount of possibilities for graphics and that way there's going to be little limitations - ideally though they need more realistic backgrounds than what they have now as they just look very poor.
The thing I didn't realise until Kay said it today is that the glass box is that it's in a different building to the newsroom - I don't think that is necessarily a massive problem now, but maybe not best suited to something like an election broadcast?
The reason I say that is you'll have correspondents and presenters, the likes of Michael Thrasher and other people such as Ed who in past elections who previously would be right next to a set - now they're going to be a building away (unless they set up a mini newsroom in Sky Central) which isn't going to be so easy access.
Can't see them using Sky Sports New studio just for an election, for one night it'll probably be a lot more effort than it's worth.

The bit you mention about correspondents and presenters is probably why I thought the SSN studio might be the sort of location they'd consider using for an election.
It's a big studio with several presentational area (the 'reaction area' bit SSN seem to love, the newswall, main desk and the various backdrops for it) and there's the newsroom behind it so that the various people working on and off air for Sky on Election night are within easy reach of each other.
At first glance the green screen studio seems far too small for election night.
This is all guesswork though and I'm sure given the various votes, referendums and elections recently that TPTB at Sky News would have put some thought into it and have an idea what they'd do were there some sort of surprise general election.

Can I just check, when did there stop using the Glass box before xmas? Why did there stop using it again?cheers
SP
They stopped using it because it was originally operated with the old studio's gallery, they stopped using it so it could be replumbed into the new studio's gallery.

I just can't see it going like that - maybe I'm wrong, but there are bound to be technical considerations, such as getting all the equipment in the Sky Sports Studio to play with the equipment that powers Sky News, then you need to relocate Sky Sports News and if you say use the Sky News Studios, again you'll have to make sure that everything feeds into each other and honestly, for one night at best, that's probably a lot of technical work and disruption you're going to make.
Of course - mine is guesswork as well and it's based on nothing other than a hunch - personally I agree that the Glass Box screen is probably more suited for the election coverage in terms of the (real) big screen being better than a virtual one - maybe they can use the box with the likes of Ed there going through things and use the Green Screen for other stuff? I honestly don't know.
Maybe they will use another studio altogether, who knows, I don't think either new studio is perfectly cut out for the elections though, but with a combination of the two they could probably make something good.
