Do we need their top-of-the-hour to feel like an event? I quite like the calmer delivery now rather than having the headlines shouted at me in the past.

And to think there used to be a time where (in this particular example of breaking news) things were so over the top it was untrue:
Here you can see now only more red than an explosion in a paint factory but also the news gatherers behind seem to inadvertently add to the drama by running around like headless chickens.
That is over the top, but just because people say the current look is boring, it doesn't mean they want it to go to that extreme, there is a middle ground.

Well yeah but they were more sensationalist in those days, that was the later version of that video wall - the previous incarnation was at least one monitor row shorter.
You say sensationalist but I have fond memories of that time from a presentation point of view and also for the energy that the simple newsroom backdrop and screens gave.

I certainly prefered Sky News before the 2005 revamp. It was a much simpler era for presenting breaking news which was ruined overnight with OTT presentation and appointment to view shows that didn't work. Even the present Sky News output doesn't match to what they were broadcasting in the mid 90s to 2005.

Sky News was my go to news channel when Freeview first launched. It was no nonsense fast paced news at a desk with a hive of activity going on behind them in the newsroom. Breaking News would be handled excellently with them trying to course reporters to speak and getting the details as quickly as possible.
Then the 2005 relaunch came and it's just been progressively worse ever since. More interested in the use of magazine content and fluff as well as guests and other stuff rather than the news of the day. I can't bear to watch more than about 15 minutes of it nowadays.
