And there's a certain other issue that's been taking up more than it's share of parliamentary time, stopping lots of other potential things being discussed
Yes.
There's nothing in our broadcasting law that says in the run up (or in campain mode) to a General Election that we have to have a televised debate with the Prime Minister and the leaders of the opposition parties.
In having the #Makedebateshappen it was a way by Sky to drum up support for something to be put into law, and to get something going through the grinding wheels of Westminster.
Once an on-line petition (on the official Government website) gets over 100,000 signature (proper ones, the obvious joke ones are filtererd out) then it's discussed away from the Commons chamber to see if there's any MP that want's to 'take it' as a formal private members bill to the commons, where, if there's time it'll be debated (note - don't get the image of a packed House of Commons like you see on Prime Ministers Questions) as it's usual on a Friday - it'll be any member of parliment interested, or deciding to chip in whilst waiting their turn to bring their own bill to the Commons.
If it's debated and passed, then there are a couple more hurdles for it to pass, before it's law.
Clue - Highly likely, as in the Senate, time wasting/Jerrymandering of other bills will slow it down, so it's dropped from the order paper and it'll be quietly forgot about - so stands no chance of becoming an enforceable law for the leaders of the various parties to have a televised debate during a General Election campaign.
It's also to try and pressure the government to introduce a debates commission as a government sponsored bill and get opposition parties to campaign on the issue formally.
Watching Sky's coverage from their Millbank studio this evening serves as a nice reminder of what they used to have. The Glass Box and (especially) the VR studio just doesn't cut it for me.
Beth Rigby is brilliant as always tonight. Wonder if we’ll find out who the new political editor is soon...
When does Fasial leave? He was very low key tonight.
Soon I hope. I don't mean that in a bad way, he's fantastic, but once the departure is announced I think they should be a bit quicker to move on, appoint new Ed and keep things nice and smooth. Faisal is kind of a lame duck ATM. Still around but we don't hear so much from him.
Glad to hear the positive responses about Beth Rigby. This woman has everything I as a viewer expect from a good correspondent! Definitely my favourite of all who have joined Skynews in the last few year's! Regarding the graphics it becomes more and more shocking to see that they are still sticking to this minimalistic all white style that is completely similar to the 2015 rebrand except the logo. I desperately hope they change it soon!

Its a year tonight at 6pm since we said goodbye to the old Sky News Centre and I still don't like either of the new studios. The general presentation of the channel is so dull compared to what it used to be. My initial concern of the 3 block set up on the main strap greatly reducing the amount of text which can be displayed is not an issue as 95% of the time they don't use it. The TOTH is in urgent need of getting updated its just so boring where as previously the TOTH felt like an event now its just flat and outdated
Noticed the ticker has been playing up for the last few days with the BREAKING NEWS and NEWS ALERT ticker divider blocks coming halfway on to the screen before the text just appears
Do we need their top-of-the-hour to feel like an event? I quite like the calmer delivery now rather than having the headlines shouted at me in the past.
