There were issues this morning with the DTL to Andy Burnham in Manchester. Sophy threw to a commercial break for 3 minutes, but recently there haven't been any advert breaks during her main programme.

I thought perhaps they'd just run the commercials that were due to be played at the end of the programme, but they still had a further break at that junction.

Perhaps someone could explain to me how they would have a 'spare' set of commercials ready to run. I would have thought that all available slots would be sold according to when they were due to be shown. Surely they wouldn't be broadcasting commercials that hadn't been paid for?

I'd imagine that outside of major programmes most companies would pay for their adverts to be shown x times between certain hours over a certain period on a channel rather than specifying fixed times. In that case they'd have the ability to shorten each of the following ad breaks by one ad each until the number of ads shown in the extra break had been cut out.

Anyone know what the sky news breakfast set will be getting a refresh? Looks very tired watching Kay @ Breakfast currently

Hasn't the show just started, is it really looking tired already?

When it started, they basically said "we're just going to make things a bit yellow before having a proper spruce up soon".
Guess who's big in the back time!

Presumably they'd wait for a parliamentary recess (there's one next week) before starting anything... otherwise the studio will be getting too much use.

Keep your eyes peeled in the coming months.

Isnt this just the generic Milbank studio that is in constant use throughout the day anyway for political reports, interviews and ofcourse Dermot Murnaghans show, but they just use yellow lighting? However, I do agree the show is rather stale and bland compared to the other current breakfast shows and the long running, and in my opinionn, much better original Sunrise with Eamon Holmes and co from the shoebox. Kay is much better than this.

The entire channel has become stale. From the sets, graphics and repetitive music, programme formats and the apologetic way they interrupt for breaking news. Which used to be Sky's bread and butter.

It was lively and the presenters were allowed (seemingly) to insert their personal knowledge of a local into the reports instead of repeating tweets and press releases.
Ahh the old days.
I'm here to give you something to talk about! You're Welcome.

In hindsight that entire mid 2000's look was probably well over the top for breaking news purposes if nothing else. The massive videowall was nice though and had multiple uses, used for displays, weather, backdrops... Really neat, I liked that.

With that style of breaking news visuals one half expected sirens to go off and for everybody to start running around like headless chickens in the background, so its probably not surprising the next relaunch had to tone it down a bit.

@Breakfast is probably missing the availability of a soft set for Sky News - neither the box or Westminster fit the more traditional breakfast show vibe and the opportunity was missed with the other set in the previous incarnation.

Functional is probably how I'd describe the overall look and feel of Sky News at the moment - it does it's job and no aspect is particularly bad, but it is ultimately all a bit sterile.

How has Kay Burley moving to breakfast affected the ratings?

Turns out nobody had 2020 vision.

I think Sky News has the balance about right at the moment. The only time of day I’d say is lacking is the 9pm to midnight slot which seems to be without much identity and feels a bit lacklustre, which is a shame considering it has 2 great presenters. The channel still looks crap, mind. Hoping for a refresh when this rumoured new logo appears.
