Was surfing around and found these quotes - everyone may already know this ..

The changes to Sky News’ evening schedule will be phased in over the next few weeks. The revamp is intended to attract bigger audiences to the evening programmes as well as raising the stakes in the competition with BBC News 24. John Ryley, executive editor of Sky News, has acknowledged that BBC News 24 is “right on our heels".
The main changes include:

– more dialogue-based programming. In this context, Ryley said that there were “elements of Littlejohn that worked which we could develop, such as the ability to hear things from different sides of the political divide."

– the appointment of the first ever head of technology to ensure the channel stays ahead of the technological advancement of television news - especially in newsgathering e.g. the development of technologies to circumvent controls on news coverage in countries with "difficult" regimes.

– the addition of a second Sky News studio (alongside a new studio for Five News) to enable pre-records and rehearsals for the first time.

So... does this mean programming as individual programmes, or just incorporated within the regular news slots? The fact that he's saying they ''could'' develop them does rather suggest that they haven't already. Playing with semantics, I appreciate, but what the hell.

Like what? Are they going to give reporters invisibility cloaks so they can get across the border into Zimbabwe and film?

Confusion reigns.

Does this mean we will see this second studio introduced before the other studio... or what?

I seem to remember a press release coming out from Sky telling us how they would be revamping their Autumn programming to make it more exciting, blah blah blah... that was the Autumn we've just had, and sod all happened.

Another wait and see job, it would seem.

Perhaps this studio will be a pretty basic space - not particularly biased the old or new studio?

Just been watching Sky News and wondered if the following was standard for weekend bulletins.

No wide shot after the titles and presenter intro, and at 15mins into the bulletin, no other shots other than of presenter with sidebar.???

Sky News seemed to have jumped the gun regarding reduced programming and shifts over Christmas.

While BBC News 24 and ITV News Channel have normal-ish schedules, Sky have since the weekend showing Year in Review programming nearly every half hour, and are only having one anchor during certain slots when their would normally be two.

It is all the more surprising given that the news agenda is relatively packed at the moment, unlike previous years at this time.

Julie Etchingham is on her own for Sky News Today. This is a bit strange, as all of their day shifts are co-anchored.

There was no special Sky News Today ident sequence at the top of the hour, just the normal generic sequence and Julie was sitting at the desk.

It seems a bit strange that one of the most important shows during the day for Sky News is only being presented by one person.

Anybody got any info?

It's xmas week. I'm guessing Julie maybe on air til 5pm, then 2 presenters for live at five and one presenter for the 8-12.

thats what happened last year.

Dont forget the year in review and one on one programs are shown nearly every hour.

I must admit, this is the first time iv ever wanted to turn Sky News off! This single anchoring is so dull! If it's just going to be one person for the next six hours, I think I'm definitely turning over. Usually Sky News Today is one of the best programmes on during the day!

I really don't understand as it's not as if the news is slowing down at all! If anything it's quite busy at the moment. I could kind of understand single anchoring over the summer when nothing is happening, but now I just don't understand it.

Even Eamonn and Fiona are still around on GMTV!

Come on Sky!

Could other staff be preparing for Five News?

yes, today, sunrise came from the desk in the studio and not the desk in the news room, and at TOTH there was no "Its Monday the 20th December" etc, it just went straight into a VT and a headline like normal TOTH. I was rather upset, as i like the Monday the 20th December and these are the stories we are covering here on Sky News sunrise"

Quite bizarre that Sky News is sticking with the scheduled pre-recorded programmes in the back half hour on such a busy news day.
