Good point Snu. I guess with the possible election in Feb, Sky News will want to get their new studios operational.
Anyone heard how the new studios for Sky News and Five are coming along?

Well, it is the Murdoch style...

It sounds like something simular to what CNBC US used to do before they moved to their new HQ, which is to have the desk in the middle of a studio, with multiple backdrops round 360°, and the desk can be rotated round so that their is a different backdrop for different times of the day i.e. CNBC US used one studio for live business programming, but early in the morning the backdrop was a bank of monitors, then later in the day, it changed to a backdrop of the newsroom, and sometimes another view of the newsroom.

I hope Sky are going to use it in a simular fashion, and not rotate round while doing links, that would be very cheesy.

I'm pretty sure we knew about this a while ago, did we not?

Given - I will say again - that they're taking influence from the MSNBC design (which, surprisingly, also has a rotating desk) we really should not be overwhelmed by shock.

When is the bloody thing going to be ready, anyway?

With the probability of a February 05 election here in the UK, will Sky News bring forward the date of the move? I imagine they would want to be in their new facility by the time of the election.

As I said earlier in the thread (you people don't pay attention sometimes, do you) Sky News will NOT move into the new studio before the election. It's apparently too much of an uphievel before something that will being in Sky alot of viewers, regardless of the studio they are in. They are petrified something will go wrong if they move.

I think you'll find I made that comment before your startling revelation. In anycase, if they decide not to move before the election I think it highly unlikely that it is because they are 'Petrified something will go wrong'.

I expect simple Risk Assessment has been used to weigh up the over all risk of such a move and where possible they will try and mitigate the risk with counter measures that will make the move smoother. Sufficed to say I think 'fear' is unlikely to put them off! If they decide not to move it will probably be because mitigation will be to expensive to justify it prior to a February election.

Yep I realise that. I was directing my post to him stating that he mentioned the moving date in this thread - which of course he hadn't.

Oh for God's sake, I'm just saying it's already been covered. If you're so pathetic that you want to claim first dibs on the 'scoop', then do.

The reason they won't move before is not down to the studio, but the playout system. They don't want to move from Betacart to hard disc editing until they're sure it'll work.

Happy now?
