They didn't this lunchtime - when I turned on at 11.50, they were covering the Belfast bank robbery, then stuck with the Budd report from noon till 12.50, without any breaks.

SKY have now put up their tree in the news studio, no signs of x-mas in the news room yet though...

I wonder if any of the insiders who visit this forum, could confirm or deny any plans to update the Weather graphics/systems used by Sky News, in time for Five News or when Sky moves to thier new Studios...

It would appear to be when Sky News moves into their new premices and get a new graphics. I suppose they don't want Five stealing their thunder. Guess we'll just have to wait till May/June.

If the globe makes it in to the new look, for the 3rd era, if im correct, im going to go to Sky and protest. The globe is sooo aged.

Oh, I don't know - the globe is only a few hundred million years old.

Anyway, hasn't a globe been used in every channel ident since Sky News launched?

well the globe is used by nearly every news channel:
Sky
BBC
ITV
CNN
NBC
CBS
ABC
Euronews
CNBC

just a few off the top of my head. it is really to show that the news is universal

Well, if Sky News can come up with a fresh idea for a globe ident then that's fine, but something new and different would be nice.
[BI quite liked the 1996 ident, it didn't have a globe but had authority to it.
Plus I also think Sky News should bring back the 'What's coming up later' intro before the main ident runs. They stopped it for some reason in 2001.

Maybe they should replace the globe with red and blue dancers?

Maybe because it's a news channel. It's pretty obvious what comes next...

Perhaps not that different Jay, after all, it is a news channel as you say.

It's more likely that they stopped the programme listing intro at the top of the hour because they axed their seperate programmes like World News and Business Report in favour of becoming a rolling news channel. Evil or Very Mad

But they did change it in 2001 to show the latest headlines, or listing the live reports due in the upcoming hour.
