It seems that in 1989 she had her own Saturday night talk show. However, it was slated by critics and was cancelled. She then went to itv but done little there so returned to the beeb.
That's from Wikipedia.
So perhaps she left the 6 to concentrate on her own programme?
Just wondering does anyone know exactly when Sue Lawley stood down from the Six o'clock News ?
And why did she stand down ? I always thought her and Nicholas Witchell were a good partnership.

She used to cover for thrice weekly Wogan as well (along with Felicity Kendall from what I recall). The Six O'clock News started the same day as Wogan of course.

The thrice-weekly Wogan started in Feb 1985, the day before EastEnders launched. But the Six started in 1984. Do you mean Wogan's earlier chat series?
