What looks a little odd is the camera pulling in at the end, with the lights going down - when I think I'd expect it to pull out instead.


Yeah, that was presumably the director giving us one last look at Trevor.

It was a great signoff and end to the programme last night. Short and succinct and the use of the 1992-1999 News at Ten closing theme was excellent. A really nice touch.

The way they timed the old music exactly with the graphics on the news wall made it even better. They don't get the timing right sometimes with the normal music


It was indeed brilliant. I find that the 1992 theme is more powerful and striking now than it ever was, and works especially well with the "theatre of news" graphics at the end. Am i the only one who thinks this?

Hearing the old theme gave me a wierd sense of sense of deja vu about the occasion - a feeling that we'd been through all this before when the old News at Ten ended - indeed his speech on that day was even longer (though still shorter than John Suchet's earlier that day on the demise of the 5:40pm).

Orchestral themes for the news seem to be out of fashion now - although Sky News' new arrangement of its theme bucks the trend - but the 1992 version sounds a lot better than the current arrangement. Given that it is still the same melody, I doubt casual viewers noticed however...

No you're not. I think the ending was superb, especially with the sync with the music - when the audio from the titles kicked in and the image on the newswall changed just at that exact moment. Very slick IMO.

Even to the point where they faded the ITN endcap like they used to instead of a straight cut - now that's dedication!

Thanks for the uploads by the way. I think allowing the other programmes to do the dedication piece and just have Trevor signing off in his own way on his programme was the right thing to do.
